The Rotary Foundation
- Rotary International Director John Smarge passed along some fantastic news regarding the lack of new polio cases in India. In 2009, there were 236 new cases of polio in 35 districts in India. In 2010, there were 30 new cases in 15 districts. In 2011 year-to-date, there is only 1 new case of polio in 1 district, which was encountered at the beginning of the year. Since that one incident, no new cases have been reported! Rotary International is taking things one week at a time, and proves that we are "this close" to eradicating polio in India.

Rotaract Club
- We are excited to announce that the Rotary Club of Naples will be sponsoring the Rotaract Club of Naples. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they're sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. As one of Rotary's most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 8,400 clubs in about 170 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.
If you know anyone who may be interested in learning about or joining this newly formed club, there will be a Development Meeting at 6:30 pm on August 24, 2011 at Andalucia Club House (on Whipperwill Lane) for prospective members. Please contact Stephanie Smarge for more information and directions.
