International Service:
Advance Goodwill and Peace

Greetings!

International Service advances international understanding, goodwill, and peace and improves the quality of life for those who live worldwide.  This Rotary year, we are going to focus on two areas of International Service:

  • The Rotary Foundation (TRF):  TRF is the charitable arm of Rotary International and enables Rotary to work its magic around the globe.  It is easy to support TRF today!
    • Our club will donate $4,500 to PolioPlus during the 2011-2012 Rotary year.  Since this money came from Grapes & Apes 2011, all club members and spouses who helped out with Grapes & Apes are contributing to PolioPlus.  Thank you!
    • Hank Dawson is already helping us find our next Ambassadorial Scholar for the 2012-2013 Rotary year.  Thanks, Hank!
    • Starting with the July invoice, we bill each member a $50 quarterly donation to TRF.  Our club's donation goal is $200/year/member.  By paying $50 on each quarterly invoice, you are funding TRF!  Of course, you are encouraged to contribute more to TRF, if possible.  Please see director Hal Atzingen or project chair Sam Hinkle for more details.  Thanks, Hal and Sam!  And thank you to all club members who support TRF!
  • Gift of Life:  It is amazing that for only $5,000, we can save a child's life!  Mia Delk and her husband Ed are hosting our next child, Gabriella Bennett from Jamaica, starting on August 20.  Thanks, Mia and Ed, for stepping up!  If you would like to help during Gabriella's stay or would like to host another child, please talk with director Jay Crandall or project chair Sonny Grech.  Thanks, Jay and Sonny!

It is easier than you may think to support our international efforts!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

This Week's Meeting

Topic:           The Power of Choice: Taking Charge of Your Future

Speaker:       Herb Cohen

Organization: Nature's Insight

  • As a motivational speaker, Herb Cohen teaches that "The Power of Choice" is one of the most valuable tools we have as a human and that we do have the choice to determine our future.  To accomplish this, he instructs his audiences in the art of "Creative Imaging":  the practice of using images to stimulate their individual desires, which in turn cause the action for their achievement.  Herb's rich and vivid photographs, with inspirational prose, are encouraging, motivating, and even more; they are a call to action.

Meetings

  • Due to ongoing construction around the Sunset Terrace, please note that we will be meeting on the other side of the street in the hotel's conference center in the Mangrove Room again this week.

Roster

  • The club roster was just updated!

Rotary-Wear

  • Club clothing is still 30% off! Check out the items by the check-in tables!
Board Meeting
  • The Board of Directors held a meeting on Monday, August 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Naples High School conference room.
  • Our club has a total of 105 members (81 Active, 22 Active Rule of 85, and 2 Honorary).  Memberships have recently been terminated for Jeff Allbritten and Jamie Kizer-Brown.
  • Camp Florida has a fundraiser going on that would give our club recognition.  The camp is installing 4"x8" pavers in the picnic area so there will be better access for wheelchairs and other handicapped campers.  A Rotary club (or anyone, for that matter) can sponsor a paver, which is memorialized with the sponsor's name, for only $125.  The board approved a donation of $125 so that The Rotary Club of Naples will have a paver with our club's name on display.
  • Director Ron Gustason is looking for someone to chair Child's Gift of Giving this year.  Anyone who is interested should please see Ron.
  • The Rotary Club of Naples is going to sponsor a new community-based Rotaract club in town.  Rotaract clubs are similar to Rotary clubs, meant for young adults ages 18 to 30.  The committment from The Rotary Club of Naples in sponsoring this new Rotaract club would be offering assistance to guide them, attending some of their meetings, having their members attend some of our meetings, and joining in with each other's projects and socials.  Financially, each Rotaract club is essentially self-sustaining.  John Smarge's daughter Stephanie will take the lead in organizing the Rotaract club and will serve as club's first president.  Mia Delk has agreed to be the director responsible for our club's interaction with the new Rotaract club.  Mia will identify a project chair soon to function as a club liaison.
  • The next board meeting will be held on Monday, September 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Naples High School conference room.  Future board meetings through June 2012 will be held on the second Monday of every month.
Accounts Receivable
  • July invoices will be 45 days past due on August 22.  Those who are on the Accounts Receivable report 45 days past due should expect a reminder email from our Executive Secretary, Sue Cobb, as well as a reminder phone call from our Treasurer, Steve Stolz.  The Board of Directors will also be made aware of the Accounts Receivable status of these individuals at our next board meeting.
