Energy Services News: Now Offering FREE Energy Evaluations!

Brad Cherin examining a home during an energy inspection
This month, our Energy Services staff launched a new deal that we're excited to tell you about.  Starting now, our Energy Services program is offering FREE Energy Evaluations.

The Energy Evaluation does not replace the Energy Audit that we offer for $175, but it is a free option for those who would like less-detailed information about the energy efficiency of their home.  With the Energy Evaluation, an Energy Services staff member will come to your home and do a visual inspection of the inside and outside of your home - they will check your attic, insulation, furnace, hot water tank, appliances and more.  After the evaluation, they will give you a set of recommendations that you can use to make your home more energy efficient.

To schedule your FREE Energy Evaluation, call 325-4170 - press option 9 for Energy Services from the Main Directory.

Employee Spotlight: Katrina Rex Joins National Community Building Committee

This month, we're recognizing one of our employee's for her work on a new national Community Building and Organizing (CB&O) Committee for NeighborWorks® America.

Katrina Rex during a clean sweep

Katrina Rex is NeighborWorks
® Rochester's Healthy Blocks ManagerAside from her work with us, and in her community, Katrina has volunteered for the past year to be the Co-Chair of the national Steering Committee for the CB&O program at NeighborWorks® America.

The Steering Committee is comprised of 10 Executive Directors or organizers from each of the NeighborWorks
® America regions, and they are currently working on how best to share the impact of their community work.  Since community building can be difficult to measure, and funding is more restricted for this type of work, it's important for everyone to be able to clearly document the impact their organization is having in the community.

The Steering Committee is trying to find the best way to tell many of the organizations' stories and share best practices among those working in the field.  They are currently waiting for results from their extensive research in this area.

Here's what Katrina had to say about her involvement with the Steering Committee:

"I really enjoy serving on this committee and I am honored to be working with such an enormously talented group of leaders."

A big thanks to Katrina for all of her hard work in her local and national community!

Healthy Blocks Unifier Projects

One of the goals of our Healthy Blocks program is to unify the neighborhoods in which we work.  These unifier projects come in many different forms - one example of this is the house plaques in the Swillburg neighborhood.

During the month of October, our Healthy Blocks staff, along with Jesse Knoth (Barton Street Block Club president) and volunteers from Enterprise Community Partners worked to install 15 solar lights as part of the unifier project in the Brooks Landing neighborhood.  Here are some photos of their work:
