Welcome Kristin Boyd and Marty Ruffle!
We
were pleased to welcome Kristin Boyd, an intern from the University of Rochester's
Simon School of Business, to our Healthy Blocks team this month.
Kristin has joined NeighborWorks® Rochesterfor the summer and will be working
with business and commercial property owners within our Healthy Blocks
neighborhoods, including E. Main Street/Winton Rd., Genesee St. and South
Clinton Ave.
Kristin will be working to develop district marketing and branding strategies,
identifying street and façade improvement opportunities and create business
recruitment toolkits.
Marty Ruffle also joined our team in June as a Heating Specialist, working in
our Energy Services department.
Marty brings with him 12 years of HVAC experience.
Because our Energy
Services staff has expanded, NeighborWorks® Rochester now has the capacity to meet all of
your HVAC needs! If you have issues with your heater, air conditioner or
hot water tank, contact our Energy Services department to find out how we can
help.
Welcome to the team Kristin and Marty! |
NeighborWorks®
Rochester in the News
Earlier this month, the Buffalo News interviewed
NeighborWorks®
Rochester COO, Eric Van Dusen, about the Rochester Project Green plans.
Project Green not only
has the potential to reposition the city of Rochester in the face of challenging social
trends, it can create new markets in ways that will rebuild our neighborhoods.
By reconfiguring city space, both urban agriculture and alternative energy
production, for example, could be developed in our neighborhoods. Project Green
offers a blueprint for addressing our soft housing market in a way that can
reinvent neighborhoods and the larger community. Below is an article that ran in
the Buffalo News that provides more detail.

Rochester Receives the "Good Neighbor" Award
On Thursday, June 17, NeighborWorks® Rochester joined SEAC (South East Area Coalition) for their 2010 Annual Meeting at Cobbs Hill Park.
The event included food, an awards ceremony and a chance to honor the many volunteers and staff at SEAC who help make the Southeast a better place to live.
During the awards ceremony, SEAC presented NeighborWorks® Rochester with the Good Neighbor award. The Good Neighbor award was given in appreciation of office space, support and assistance from NeighborWorks® Rochester's CEO, Kim Brumber, after the SEAC office on South Clinton caught on fire.
Thank you SEAC for this special honor!

Community Building & Organizing Peer Learning Site Visit Affordable Housing Resources, a NeighborWorks® Chartered Member from Nashville, TN, recently made the visit to our offices as part of the CB&O (Community Building & Organizing) Peer Learning Site Visit.
The goal of the Peer Learning Site Visit was to demonstrate our Healthy Blocks evaluation model and teach Affordable Housing Resources how to implement this model in the Historic North Nashville district. This particular district in Nashville has one of the highest foreclosure rates and is in desperate need of revitalization, with many of its residents falling below the poverty line.
Here are a few photos from their visit:
