NeighborWorks® to Recognize Top Three Realtors at the Greater Rochester Association of Realtor's Annual Award Dinner
NeighborWorks®
Rochester's
mission is to collaborate with people and partners to strengthen, sustain, and
promote city neighborhoods. One of the ways we help to do this is by promoting
homeownership through our Homeownership Education Services. Homeownership is
one of the important factors in improving neighborhood stability - both by
retaining current homeowners and by helping first-time homebuyers make
homeownership a reality. Important partners in the homeownership process are
our community's Realtors. Realtors have been referred to as the "gatekeepers,"
and for good reason. They are the professionals that help homebuyers locate
available houses and help to facilitate the sale. When a family purchases a
home this not only impacts the family and the home, it also impacts the neighborhood
surrounding that home.
Because of this,
NeighborWorks® Rochester will be recognizing the
top three Realtors who sold the most homes to first-time home buyers in the
city of Rochester
at the Great Rochester Association of Realtor's Annual Award Dinner on November
6th. This award celebrates the advantages of city living at the same
time recognizing the Realtor community as important players in keeping our
neighborhood housing markets strong.

First-Annual Brooks Landing Community Barbecue
The First Annual Brooks Landing Barbeque was held on Friday
September 11, 2009 at the Staybridge Suites Hotel on Genesee Street, in which over 300 people
attended. Residents from the 19th Ward and PLEX neighborhoods joined
over a hundred University of Rochester students for great food provided by Unkle Moe's, live music and
free prizes. The event was successful in
helping to build connections and create positive perceptions between students
and residents.
Brooks Landing is the neighborhood surrounding NeighborWorks®
Rochester's second Healthy Blocks neighborhood, started in 2007, and is located
in the Brooks Landing neighborhood in south west Rochester. The neighborhood
surrounds intersections of South
Plymouth Avenue, Genesee Street, and Brooks Avenue and overlaps two
neighborhood associations, the 19th Ward
Community Association and Plymouth-Exchange Neighborhood.
To learn more about the Healthy Blocks program, click here.
To contact Katrina Hanson and learn how you can get involved, e-mail her at khanson@nwrochester.org.
Students from the University of Rochester wait patiently for their barbecue dinner. Musicians from the SWAN Community Band perform at the Brooks Landing Community Barbecue. Paul Burgett, Vice President, University of Rochester, welcomes students to the Barbecue and the neighborhood. Neighbors and students enjoy an early fall barbecue along the Genesee River.
