I wanted to share with you some of the results of a recent public opinion poll conducted on behalf of Restore Hetch Hetchy by David Binder Research, Inc. The poll had a sample size of 500 registered voters in San Francisco, was conducted in mid-July and has a margin of error of 4%.

Brief Analysis
The SF electorate is very supportive of creating a more sustainable, less impactful water system. This confirms the potential benefit of our current strategy of linking the restoration of Hetch Hetchy Valley and the Tuolumne River to increased investments in water efficiency, water recycling and groundwater management.
Potential rate increases are the largest obstacle to a successful ballot initiative campaign but certainly not insurmountable
The age gap will impact the decision as to whether to place an initiative before the SF voters in 2011 (mayoral election-low turnout) or wait until 2012 (presidential election-high turnout).
The gender, ethnicity and age gap will help focus our public education efforts.
* Within the margin of error.
