Plumas County's Oldest Ranch Protected!
Thanks to incredibly dedicated landowners, generous partners, and our own committed community, the Pearce Family Ranch is protected!

The Feather River Land Trust is pleased to announce the first conservation easement in Indian Valley. The 318-acre Pearce Family Ranch just north of the town of Taylorsville, CA, was founded in the 1800s and has been owned and managed by the Hardgrave/Pearce family for 6 generations, making it the oldest, family-owned working cattle ranch in Plumas County.

Indian Creek winds through the property, providing extensive riparian, wetland, and meadow habitats. Conserving the ranch protects a variety of species, including native fish, nesting sandhill cranes, mountain beaver, bald eagles, and many species of songbirds.

The conservation easement will
enable the 6th generation of Hardgraves/Pearces to continue ranching and stewarding the land, and it will protect scenic open space and educational access for local schoolchildren.

Check out photos of the Ranch here.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy and the Northern Sierra Partnership contributed $544,300 toward the $570,000 easement. In the crucial final weeks, our generous local community and donors, with matching funds from the Morgan Family Foundation, raised the final $25,700 needed to complete the purchase and protect the ranch forever. We are truly grateful and proud of our community!

Thank you and congratulations!
