Angkor Wat Bike Challenge, Cambodia!
....With a difference - We're getting the children in Cambodia to do the hard work this time by taking part in a 30km sponsored cycle ride.
As 2009 comes to an end, we are delighted to report HOPE has gone from strength to strength thanks to all the wonderful support (time, love and money) we have received and we are rounding off the year with a fairly unique event - the very kids we support in the Young Adult Programme are getting "on their bikes"
When I last visited in April this year, Jo and I met the young adults in the programme, who inspired by my efforts cycling London to Paris in '08, asked how they could help........to cut a long story short, after a few conversations we have 13 young adults and 6 of their educators signed up to do their very own sponsored bike ride - around the temples of Angkor Wat. This takes place on 5th December and will entail a 30km ride early in the morning (temperatures already in high 20s) and Jo will be there too. The kids have been training and Bota (one of the boys who recently moved out from the orphanage into the "half way house" provided by the Programme) has been practising his English and IT skills by writing a blog - take a look here.
I know you get inundated with requests but here are 3 reasons why this is different
- 100% of your donation will go to the cause (the trustees' personal donations cover all admin costs and other overheads)
- the children are really trying to help themselves get a better future - a small amount goes a long way in Cambodia. Just £5 (c. 2 coffees) can feed a young adult for a week, £21 will pay for their medical expenses for a year, £40 is the monthly cost of one of the teachers we sponsor ...
