BioMed SA Expands Executive Committee, Elects New Members and Officers

BioMed SA, the non-profit organization charged with promoting San Antonio's healthcare and bioscience industry, has re-elected officers for 2010 and expanded its Executive Committee to 19 members by adding an additional seat for bioscience firms and a new seat for venture capital/investors.

A tiny molecule called a microRNA acts as a Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT), recently announced the hire of Prof. Martin Rothman as vice president of medical affairs for the company's coronary and peripheral vascular business based in Santa Rosa, Calif.
First Patient Enrolled In Phase I Clinical Trial Of Landmark Astrazeneca, Merck & Co. Novel Combination Anticancer Regimen

Dr. TolcherDr. Anthony Tolcher, clinical director for South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (START) at the START Center for Cancer Care in San Antonio, announced recently that the first patient has been enrolled in a groundbreaking Phase I clinical trial of a novel combination anticancer regimen composed of two investigational compounds: MK-2206 from Merck & Co., Inc. and AZD6244 (ARRY-886*) from AstraZeneca.
