| Evaluation Shows Significant Improvement in Local Hospitals' Disaster Preparedness |
U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, April 23, 2009U.S. hospitals are significantly better prepared for disasters and public health emergencies now than they were in 2001, but much work remains to be done, according to a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center study.The study by the university's Center for Biosecurity was released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR). | MRI: Imaging Technique Of Choice To Exam Pregnant Patients With Possible Appendicitis |
American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), April 24, 2009Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) gives physicians a safe and accurate tool for the diagnosis of appendicitis in pregnant patients without the increased risks of radiation to the patient and fetus, according to a study performed at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA. "Appendicitis is the most common cause of right lower quadrant pain in the pregnant patient that requires emergent surgical intervention. It occurs in approximately one in 1500 pregnancies," said Chris Ho, MD, lead author of the study. Full Story. | |
