Clinical Trials Conducted At Cancer Care Centers Of South Texas Improve Treatment For One Of The Most Common Blood Diseases In Older Americans |
Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, San Antonio, TX - April 21, 2009
Clinical trials being conducted at Cancer Care Centers of South Texas in San Antonio are improving the treatment of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, one of the most common groups of blood diseases that affect older Americans. The clinical trials, which involve alternative dosing schedules with the drug azacitidine (Vidaza), have been so promising that the results were published in the March issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The Texas Cord Blood Bank (TCBB), a publicly and privately funded non-profit program established to create a public supply of umbilical cord blood, announced that it has begun collecting the life-saving resource from Providence Healthcare Network in Waco, Texas.
