Welcome!

In spite of ongoing news on the nation's economic instabilities and the incessant play-by-play coverage of the presidential race, the San Antonio healthcare and bioscience industry has been busy blazing their own trails. Read on for stories that show how S.A.'s healthcare and bioscience industry continues as a dominant force in the San Antonio economy.

Last week the San Antonio Greater Chamber of Commerce announced the results of their 2007 Economic Impact Study.  According to the study conducted by Richard Butler, PhD, and Mary E. Stefl, PhD, both professors at Trinity University, the economic impact generated by the industry totaled $16.3 billion. The study further indicated that one of every seven San Antonio employee worked in the healthcare and bioscience industry. (Click here to read the report in its entirety.)  Also at an event last week held at the new STBTC Donor Pavilion, Bill Rasco, President/CEO of the Greater San Antonio Hospital Council hosted Senator Leticia Van de Putte at their monthly meeting where she discussed plans to resume addressing healthcare policy at the start of the 81st legislative session. Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte, a pharmacist for more than 25 years, represents a large portion of San Antonio. She has been elected to four terms in the Texas Senate, following five terms as a state representative.
