| Infection Control Guidelines Issued |
Hoping to improve infection control in hospitals, the nation's top epidemiological societies joined with the American Hospital Association and the Joint Commission, which accredits hospitals, to issue a compendium of guidelines for preventing six lethal conditions.
The unified backing of the hospital association and the accrediting agency should give the recommendations some teeth. The Joint Commission's vice president, Dr. Robert A. Wise, said his agency would spend the next year studying which guidelines it would add to its accrediting standards in 2010. Full Story. |

Voted an Innovative and Socially Responsible Company with Loyal Employees
Genzyme Corporation (Nasdaq: GENZ), October 9, 2008, announced today that scientists have again named the company a top employer in a survey ranking the reputations of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. This year Genzyme moved up in the ranking to third on the global list of nearly 500 companies, the highest ranking it has ever earned. | STBTC Announces Medical Affairs VP and Donor Recruitment VP |
SAN ANTONIO (October 9, 2008) - President/CEO and Medical Director of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center Dr. Norman D. Kalmin announced today that Dr. Rachel Beddard will fill the newly created position of vice president for medical affairs and Shari Miller is being promoted to vice president for donor recruitment.
"Dr. Beddard and Ms. Miller have a proven track record of success here at the Center," Kalmin said. "They have implemented unique and successful programs that have attracted donors and enhanced our quality. They are established leaders among our staff. | Texas Hospital Association Launches Wristband Standardization Initiative |
 AUSTIN (Oct. 8, 2008) - Many hospitals use color-coded wristbands to alert caregivers about certain patient conditions. Red might denote a serious allergy, while blue could mean that the patient has requested a "do not resuscitate" order. But a tool meant to keep patients safe could have unintended consequences if caregivers are not clear about the meanings behind the colors. Full Story. |
