Methodist Hospital Awarded National 2008 Organ Donation Medal Of Honor
Methodist ImagaMethodist Hospital, September 23, 2008 - Methodist Hospital will be awarded the 2008 Organ Donation Medal of Honor, issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services at the 4th Annual National Learning Congress on Organ Donation and Transplantation to be held in Nashville on October 23-24, 2008. Methodist Hospital is one of only five hospitals in the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance's donation service area who have earned a Medal of Honor this year.  Full Story.
Scientists Develop New, More Sensitive Nanotechnology Test for Chemical DNA Modifications
American Association for Cancer Research, September 23, 2008--Researchers at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore have developed a novel test to screen for chemical modifications to DNA known as methylation. The technology potentially could be used both for early cancer diagnoses and for assessing patients' response to cancer therapies.  Full Story.

Statins Can Prevent Premature Ageing Of Arteries
Medical News Today, September 29, 2008--New research from the UK found that statins, normally prescribed for lowering cholesterol and reducing heart attack risk, can stop arteries ageing prematurely in patients with advanced heart disease.  Full Story.
