Ride Day Volunteer Opportunities
Get Involved!
Are you or someone you know interested in volunteering in support of the Ride? There are plenty positions available. For more information on volunteering for the Ride, send an email to Kyle Dlabay. Sentries are needed for the day of the Ride north of downtown. This position is great for groups! Stationed in small groups, sentries help keep our riders safe. Sentries direct the flow of bike traffic at their assigned intersection along the route of the ride and cheer on riders.
Other areas volunteers are needed:
- Start Line (Day of Ride) - SAG Drivers (Day of Ride)

PLEDGING INFORMATION
Every bit helps
Pledging is not mandatory, BUT pledging a small amount to the Ride, or simply collecting pledges from family and friends is a great way to increase the impact you have on Milwaukee's cultural future. If every participant in the UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite, raised just $15, together we would raise an extra $105,000 in support of the performing arts in southeastern Wisconsin. How easy is it to raise $100? Just ask 10 coworkers for $10 each! Or four friends for $25 each! Or two family members for $50 each!
The role of the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) is to secure community resources, promote the performing arts as a regional asset and improve the quality of life through responsible investment in and financial support of the arts in southeastern Wisconsin. Click on the link below to find more pledging information.

Biking in Traffic
There are certainly risks to riding alongside cars; however, they're manageable if you're careful and bike intelligently. In fact, many city cyclists choose to join the flow of traffic by commuting to work on their bikes rather than driving. They have a healthy respect for cars and they know how to behave and remain safe. Here are some tips from Wheel & Sprocket for riding in traffic:

Nutrition and Athletic Performance: Carbohydrates & Fats
Whether you're an athlete or less-active individual, your basic nutrition needs remain the same. No special diet will improve athletic performance; however, peak performance cannot be achieved without the help of an adequate, well balanced diet.

Honey Soy Grilled Salmon with Edamame
This issue, with a focus on carbohydrates and fats, we have selected a special recipe. From the Food Network's Kitchens and Healthy Eating, we are featuring another quick and easy meal that you can make after a nice evening bike ride with the family.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE
2012 UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite
Since 1981, the UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite has been UPAF's annual signature fundraising event to benefit the United Performing Arts Fund and the 36 performing arts groups it supports in southeast Wisconsin. It is a critical component of UPAF's long term strategy, nurturing new donors, volunteers and audience members for the performing arts through a fun and entertaining bike event. Last year's Ride raised nearly $550,000 and included nearly 7,000 riders. Since its inception in 1981, 263,000 ride participants, thousands of volunteers and hundreds of sponsors have helped raise $7.3 million for UPAF.
