When you look around our community, what do you really see? Do you notice the old world architecture adorning Milwaukee's historic streets? Or the futuristic Quadracci Pavilion, home to the Milwaukee Art Museum? Perhaps it is the curves of a Les Paul guitar, or even a Harley motorcycle loudly thrumming on the street? These distinctive visuals hold a special place in not only our hearts, but also our souls by enriching our lives and defining who we are as a society.

Now, imagine your world without these seemingly simple pleasures. What would we have left? Certainly not the community we have come to love. These iconic images have helped shape Milwaukee and its surrounding neighborhoods into what they are - who we are - today.

All of these distinctive characteristics were created through some facet of art. Art has the power to influence. Art sparks imagination and creativity. Innovators cannot invent without adequate inspiration. When art is prevalent, innovation not only flourishes; it pervades every field, from visual to performing arts to engineering and architecture.

To celebrate all the artistic talent and beauty in our community, UPAF is pleased to announce "I ♥ Art" - a program that allows you to capture through photography what you define as art. It can be extraordinary or ordinary; unconventional or conventional; surreal or real. You decide.

Share your "art" by...

  • Facebook: Post photos on UPAF's Facebook page (go to United Performing Arts Fund's page and click "upload a photo")
  • Email: Send it to us at art@upaf.org and we'll post it for you.
  • Twitter: Use our hashtag #upaf.

We want to explore and expand the definition of art through you. Show the Greater Milwaukee area what it simply cannot exist without.

Art is all around us. Find it. Capture it. Share it.

Sincerely,

Deanna Tillisch

Wittenberg

February 17 - March 3, 2012 at 8 p.m.

Village Church Arts, 130 E. Juneau Avenue

"Finally - a decent Protestant Reformation comedy!"
-Philadelphia Inquirer.

The fall semester at Wittenberg U finds Hamlet Prince of Denmark class of 1517 with an undecided major.  His philosophy professor Dr. John Faustus has finally decided to marry his paramour, a former nun turned courtesan, and his theology professor Martin Luther is dealing with the spiritual and medical consequences of his outrage at abusive practices of the Church.  At turns hysterically funny and poignantly touching the play takes the fictional characters of Christopher Marlowe's Faustus and Shakespeare's Hamlet and throws them together with the renaissance religious reformer Martin Luther and places the three of them on the campus of Wittenberg U to hash out their theories about the mysteries of the universe, existence, women, love and God.
