The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California expresses its deep sadness at the loss of innocent life and the destruction of property in Libya, Egypt and in other countries. Islamic values do not sanction violence and destruction even to redress a legitimate grievance. We extend our condolences to the families of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and his colleagues as we condemn those who attacked the Embassy.
Shura Council also condemns the special interest groups who continue to insult important symbols of Islam such as the Quran and the Prophet. We call on these special interest groups to rethink of their insistence in spreading hate against Islam and Muslims and also stoking the same between faith communities. We support the privilege of freedom of expression to everyone but we also ask our President to hold everyone accountable when they spread hate and insult others.
In the interim, "we urge Muslims to continue to uphold the injunctions of the Holy Quran and the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) of always correcting the wrong with right methods and means," said the Chairman of the Shura Council, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi.
In these difficult times, the Shura Council annual Open Mosque Day on Sunday, October 7th becomes even more important. We urge everyone to take this opportunity and visit a Mosque and meet Muslims to build new relationships and explore ways to work together for the common and greater good.
