Greetings!

"O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear God, through whom you ask one another, and the ties of relationship. Indeed God is ever, over you, an Observer." ~ Qur'an 4:1

STATUS OF THE STATE(S)

Question mark

Governor Jerry Brown delivered the State of the State and the President the State of the Union last week. Such important public statements are parsed in variety of ways. Here's a video response by Ralph Nader to the President's speach and a version of State of the Union in graphics as well as a GOP response, a Tea Party response and several other responses, here and here.

BIGOTRY IN NYPD

Muslim with protest signes The NYPD has been in the news lately but for wrong reasons. First for partnering with the CIA in monitoring Muslims and for their surveillance of Muslims. And now for training/teaching to hate Muslims to more than 10% of their police force. Critics link the hate movie, Third Jihad to a Palestine hater.

In response to the NYPD's fomenting hate, advancing bigotry and engaging in illegal and unwarranted activities, CUNY School of Law has launched a NYPD policing project called Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility - CLEAR.

A few years ago, the LAPD had also planned to map Muslims in Southern California. Along with other Muslim organizations Shura Council challenged the wisdom of Muslim mapping and forced LAPD to shelve it.

We applaud the interfaith and social justice organizations in New York for demanding the rule of law and as a gesture of their solidarity declining the New York Mayor's invitation to an interfaith prayer breakfast.
