Winter 2011

Greetings!

Welcome to our quarterly University Technology Park e-newsletter, designed to give you quick updates about new and growing companies within the Tech Park and to announce lectures, workshops, conferences, and networking events of interest to the Tech Park community.

We are pleased to announce that on September 9, 2010, the contract award documents for Incubator-South construction and furniture were deemed acceptable to the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and the contract amounts are fully eligible to be awarded.  On September 14, 2010, IIT executed formal contracts with both Bovis Lend Lease and Office Concepts for the construction and furniture portions of project, respectively.

IIT now celebrates the capstone of the University Technology Park's development with the commencement of Incubator-South's construction: a 28,000-square foot building with space for 30 companies within 15 wet labs and 15 dry labs/offices.  This project illustrates a comprehensive and integrated local, city, county, state, and federal strategic commitment to economic development.

If you have comments, questions or suggestions, drop me a line.

Sincerely,

Daniel F. Marselle

Director, University Technology Park at IIT

New Tech Park Client:
Intelligent Generation

The University Technology Park's newest client, Intelligent Generation (IG), is working to make clean energy more accessible. The company's mission is to be a catalyst for clean energy adoption by networking distributed power sources into virtual power plants, and its vision is to democratize how power is produced, stored and delivered to make renewable energy economically compelling.

Intelligent Generation staffIntelligent Generation uses patented technology to develop the IG Powerbroker, a smart device which, when combined with a stationary battery, can dramatically improve the economic efficiencies of a solar installation for large commercial structures or single family homes. The solution won IG first place at the 2009 Midwest CleanTech Innovation Competition.

Many factors led IG to the University Technology Park, not the least of which is the fact that the company's founder, Jay Marhoefer, is an IIT alumnus. According to Jay, a second reason is that IIT "makes it clear it wants to become a center of excellence in the smart-electricity revolution that has just started." A third and the most important factor is access to the brightest researchers and talents in the field of clean energy. Jay hopes that those at IIT who want to apply their skills and learning to a concrete business will find IG an exciting proposition.

IG will be celebrating the launch of its newest test site at the IIT Smart Grid Innovation Cluster in the Technology Business Center from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011. To learn more about Intelligent Generation, register online to attend the event or visit www.intelgen.com.
