Greetings!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. However, as you may know, MBCC questions the tactics used during October to "support" breast cancer and believes that we need to move beyond awareness and into action toward prevention. A recent Boston Globe Sunday Magazine article helps to explain some of our concerns with all the pink marketing.
MBCC has many events open to all of our members over the course of the next few months. In particular, we are offering the local premiere viewing of a documentary film 'No Family History', exploring environmental links to breast cancer, at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline on October 14th, please see listing below.
Furthermore, we continue our advocay efforts in support of initiatives that have the capacity to make our environment a healthier one for all of us. We hope the information below catches you up to date with our activities and we invite you to become involved and join us at our upcoming events!
Sincerely,
The MBCC Team

Sick of Pink
Boston Globe Sunday Magazine Oct. 4, 2009 By Kris Frieswick This month, like every October, a sea of pink ribbons washes over products from sneakers to snacks. While the effort raises research dollars, it leaves some breast cancer survivors feeling that companies are profiting from their pain. Continue reading...

MBCC has organized Regional Advocacy Councils across the state and will be developing programs in each region over the upcoming year. Currently, activities are underway on Cape Cod, in South Shore, Central, Western MA (see action below) and Boston. We hope to begin activities in MetroWest, South Coast and Northshore in upcoming months.
It is our hope to use these councils as an avenue for advocacy actions, for educating your community about environmental risks to health and to assist with environmental health campaigns underway in your community.
If you would like to be involved in our Advocacy Councils, please contact Erin Boles at (617) 376-6222 or eboles@mbcc.org.
Through the Western MA Regional Advocacy Council,
MBCC is
supporting a ballot initiative described HERE relative to the
health and environmental dangers of proposed biomass plants in Western MA.
This is of concern to the MBCC because of the link between exposure to
toxins found in air pollution.
There are many ways in which
concerned community members can help.
Please CLICK HERE to see what you can do to help.
