Optimization of a Vehicle Door to Minimize Mass

A vehicle door was optimized using HEEDS Professional. The goal of the study was to minimize the door mass through gauge optimization, while meeting the constraints on stress and deflection. Six static load cases were considered for each design iteration.

HEEDS found a design that reduced the mass of the considered components by 18.6% over the baseline design, while meeting all of the performance requirements.

How to Quickly Identify Potential Runtime Errors in a HEEDS Setup
HEEDS Professional Tip

Before launching any HEEDS study, it is important to make sure that there are no errors in the model setup. Unresolved errors can result in the loss of valuable time. For example, a HEEDS study with undetected runtime errors, executed to run unmonitored over the weekend, could result in the loss of up to three days of computational time.

This tip will describe a few different techniques you can use to quickly identify potential runtime errors without performing complete design evaluations.
