| Adventure Series Ride | |
This will be the last VCARS ride. Now, the explanation of why that is good news: BMW Motorcycles of Ventura County is now able to provide GS-oriented rides in-house! BMWoVC Service Manager Howard Rantz will be leading monthly adventure day rides from the shop, beginning in October. Even better, shop rides will now be free! You have yet another monthly organized ride available to you. Meantime, the VCARS repeating series of rides of gradually increasing challenge will continue as well, at least through the end of this year. Furthermore, this change will create time for the reinstitution of EarthRider's well-received Skilzdrills series, last offered in 2009. Follow the EarthRider site for future updates on the Skilzdrill series & other day- & multi-day rides. See you on the 18th!

Greetings!
Fall Riding is the Best! Fall riding offers excellent opportunities to explore the countryside and enjoy your motorcycle. The weather is usually pretty good, colors are great, roads are less crowded, and you can get a good camping spot or motel room along the way. Fall also means new models, and BMW Motorcycles are no exception. We currently have 14 bikes "on the water" meaning they are in route from Germany to our dealership. This includes 2011 S1000RR's, RT's, ST's, and GS's. This also means we have 2010 models that need to be sold, although not too many are remaining. So stop by and check out our latest inventory and ride the Sierra's this fall experiencing all of the great roads we have to offer in California. A little something new in this issue, more information about trips and rides. We always appreciate feedback from our customers, and last month one of our long time customers commented about our newsletter and wanted to see more "information" and a little less "sales". While we view this newsletter as one of our key communication pieces and want to bring you into our store, we also want to provide value to you our customers. So don't miss out reading about Mike's latest ride and camping trip below. Don't forget to check out our Facebook page for all the latest information and updates, including pictures from our open house here: BMW Ventura. It's a quick way to find out what's going on at BMWVC and get updates on all our activities. Make sure your bike is in top shape to ride this fall. In the mean time, ride safe. Balch Park A short ride
A quick camping trip with a friend, throw your tent and sleeping bag on the bike and head to the mountains, that's part of the beauty that is motorcycling. You don't have to plan an epic weeks longs trip through the backcountry to have your own mini-adventure.
My cousin and I decided to head out on Saturday morning, avoiding the Friday afternoon, holiday weekend traffic. We could have left on Friday and threaded the line between rows of cars for miles, but this was a weekend for relaxing, and exploring so we settled on the " we are in no hurry" plan. This weekend we made our way up to Balch Park, a Tulare County operated campground just up the mountain near Springville, Ca. We choose to stay at the Balch Park Campground because we were meeting my uncle who was spending the week there relaxing and enjoying the campground atmosphere in his trailer. At an elevation of just over 6,000 feet, Balch Park is a pay campground with sites for RVs and tents, with two stocked ponds, water at the campsites and flush toilets. There are several free campsites nearby without the amenities if you prefer including Hidden Falls if you like the sound of endless running water, natures white noise. We spent Sunday exploring a few of the many miles of forest service and access roads nearby. Awesome scenery connected by miles of ageing paved and unimproved dirt roads, great fun on the GS, lofting the front wheel over ruts and drainage breaks with no destination other than where were at the moment, the phrase "its good to be us right now" was spoken frequently. I plan to make many more of these quick un-planned weekend trips myself, on my motorcycle, with friends. Ride safe.

Mojave Road - September 25-27
We are going to ride the Mojave Road from Laughlin to Barstow from September 25th to the 27th.
The Mojave Road is one of the early routes that brought American pioneers to California. This trail is unique in that for most of this 138 mile stretch it is in much the same condition as the pioneers found it. Much of the trail passes through country virtually unchanged since prehistoric times.
Mostly a 4-wheel drive trail wandering from waterhole to waterhole, the Mojave Road was a main wagon trail for only a short time. The railroads brought an easier route complete with oases on those bitter dry deserts but while it was used the Road was a route plagued by hostile Indians, long stretches of sand and rough hill climbs. For caravans of travelers and soldiers it was a difficult proving ground that brought out the best and the worst of them.
This BMWVC Mini-Adventure will be limited to 8 riders. Contact Michael Spencer for more information. |
