Greetings!
Already 3 weeks since returning from our Great Divide Ride, and I'm only just now catching up with reality, and the realization that future upcoming events are FAST approaching!
All these events have an element of fun and excitement (of course) and if we have anywhere near the quality of the GDR riders participating, you will be assured of an awesome time! |

LONG WAY DOWN...
As you may know there will be a special one-time theatrical release of LONG WAY DOWN nationwide at 7:30PM on Thursday, July 31. A list of participating theatres is available at www.fathomevents.com.
Several riders from the shop are meeting at the Ventura Stadium 16 on Elba Street in Ventura - why don't you come and join us? We'll even buy your ticket back from you! (see "Special Offer" at the bottom of this mail).
This promises to be even better than Long Way Round -- after all, it's Africa: anything can happen!

DUAL SPORT 2-up RIDE - Saturday Aug 2nd
Lucky 13?
The season finale of the Dual Sport Ride Series is now upon us, and Divide Peak awaits...- Extremely narrow single track;
- Puckeringly steep descents;
- Nerve-wrackingly loose hill-climbs;
- Stallingly treacherous curves;
..and a host of other challengingly challenging challenges await you. Who knows; with good riding, a helping hand over the rough sections, and a smattering of good luck, you just might survive long enough to enjoy the staggeringly beautiful sweeping views to be had at the very end of the intimidatingly narrow and exposed, sometimes silty, relatively rocky and continuously curvy ridgeline run!

 TRACK DAY! - 7.00am Sunday Aug 3rd.
With the ZERO tolerance stance the local authorities are taking towards motorcyclists exceeding the speed limits, more and more riders are attending Track Days as a sensible alternative to the dangers of high-speed Sunday morning runs up their local canyons.
Conveniently organized for a Sunday, we've booked a block of tickets at the Willow Springs Raceway. The tickets cost us $135, and will cost you the same, and there are still a few available.

GREAT DIVIDE RIDE - Feedback
Where does one start? I know that this has been the second-biggest problem all the GDR'08 riders have faced on their return. The biggest problem has been getting up to speed in the daily grind of work and 'normalcy'!
4,335 miles and 13 days of focus on nothing but The Ride really allowed everyone to bond as a group, and deal with the daily rigours and challenges we faced. One bike broke down for a day (repaired that night), and one injury that resulted in a slight change of plan and a longer time in Steamboat The 11 broken ribs are mending nicely!
Three main elements emerged from this ride:
- The Route - Clearly, the route is nothing short of spectacular, and no photo or movie can possibly capture the vastness and beauty of this part (yes, only a part!) of this wonderful country. However, one of the lessons learned by the riders was not to underestimate the route - it is rigourous and challenging, and requires preparation and training.
- The Group - what a tremendous collection of riders, who all grew in skills as the dust settled in their clothing. Most impressive however, was how everyone "problem-solved" when faced with the occasional technical issue or a snow portage or two... Brilliant!
- The Support - once the challenge of producing coffee in plentiful quantities at 5am was overcome there was simply no problem the support crew couldn't solve. Breakfast to set the team up for the day, and appetizers, drinks and dinner to meet them in the evening, has set the bar extremely high for next year!
All the photos from the ride have been collected and over the next few weeks we'll print some of them and replace the GDR'07 photos on the wall with these ones. We will also create a DVD in due course, and host a follow-up evening at the shop.

OCTOBER EVENTS - Please diarize
- BMWVC RawHyde Training - Oct 2,3,4 - we already have several riders signed up for a "custom" off-road training course held up at RawHyde Adventures. Speak to, or email Pete for details and pricing.
- Open House - Oct 11-12 - Great food, two days of demo rides (yes, we will have the DEMO truck); check out the F800GS's as well as the rest of the '09 range.
- VCMC Dual Sport Rally - Oct 17,18,19 - A 400-mile dual-sport rally sanctioned by the AMA starting in Bishop and riding up towards the Mammoth Lakes area. Contact Mike Koronkny at (805) 391-1013 for details and tell him you're signing up with BMWVC.
- 3rd Annual Charity Ride - Oct 25 - In support of the PBTF this well-attended ride will have a new GeoCache format this year! We will place several geocaches in secret locations that you must find with your GPS (or a GPS-enabled buddy!), and in each of these will be vouchers to awesome prizes which you will collect back at the dealership. We'll end the day with a late-afternoon BBQ and donations to the PBTF.

I will be away visiting family in South Africa during the first 3 weeks of August, but any one of our capable team will be able to answer any query you may have about the upcoming events. The year is definitely flying by so make sure you get out on your bike and DO something enjoyable before it's over - after all, we DO have year-round riding weather; enjoy it!
