Q: What is your vision of the twenty first century higher education classroom?

A: 21st century college students are connected and want to build knowledge, not memorize information.  The average Canadian child spends between 2 and 7 hours a day connected to the Internet (Statistics Canada) - digital natives who post original music videos in YouTube, connect with friends and family through Blogger, and clock a few hours of day on digital video games, will not be content to sit in a dark lecture hall writing notes from the overhead.

Robert Martellacci
The future of learning is about adapting to an ever changing environment in education and infusing technology where it makes sense. The pace of change in classrooms has lagged behind for many good and bad reasons.

The traditional industrial production model provides a comfort zone for some educators. Come to think of it, it reminds me of the auto industry in North America vs our global competitors-we're failing to keep pace with global innovation. While there are pockets of excellent innovation, for the most part, it happens in isolation. This requires a massive team effort where Faculties of Education need to take a greater leadership role in preparing future teachers with 21st Century classroom skills.
