Mobile Meals of Spartanburg will host its eighth annual Land Cruise on Friday, March 9

at 7:00 p.m. at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, which is magically transformed

tropical paradise for a few hours," said Nan Cleveland, event chair.

The Mobile Meals Land Cruise includes live music from The Swingin' Medallions.

entertainment that a real cruise affords."

Love yourself, get a mammogram

If you haven't scheduled your annual mammogram yet, make sure that is on your to-do list along with getting your sweetheart's Valentine's gift.

Spartanburg Regional's mobile mammography unit is a convenient way to schedule your annual mammogram. Last year, the unit screened 2,700 women.

"Women are often known for putting others before themselves, and that's a great trait to have, except when it comes to our health," said Jackie Folinas, Mobile Mammography Coordinator for Spartanburg Regional's Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health. "Scheduling an annual mammogram is a responsible and proactive step to take. It also sets a good example for the women in your life."

The American Cancer Society suggests that women begin receiving annual mammograms at age 40. Screening mammograms are intended to detect breast cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. Early detection of breast cancer means treatment can start earlier, possibly before the disease spreads.

Women are invited to schedule appointments for mammograms on Spartanburg Regional's mammography unit at the following locations by calling 864-560-7999. Please bring your insurance card and identification to your appointment.

Feb. 2: Family Physicians at 290, 1575 E. Main Street, Duncan

Feb. 3: Walmart, 141 Dorman Centre Drive, Spartanburg

Feb. 8: Family Practice of Woodruff, 511 Cross Anchor Road, Woodruff

Feb. 29: Inman Family Practice, 12230 Asheville Highway, Inman

Spartanburg Regional's mobile mammography unit is 48 feet long, and it serves as the outreach arm of the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health.

The Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health is a state-of-the-art imaging center, consolidating digital mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast MRI and bone densitometry into one easily accessible, outpatient location.

The center also offers digital screening mammography at Spartanburg OB-GYN at North Grove, the Woman's Clinic (Spartanburg) and the Village at Pelham (Greer).

Groups can request the mobile mammography unit at their sites by calling 864-560-6400. There is no fee to bring the unit to a site and most insurance policies cover the cost of an annual screening mammogram.
