The CEAB is short for the Copake Economic Advisory Board - a group of 12 volunteers appointed by the Copake Town Board.  The CEAB actively pursues activities, programs and actions to attract, maintain and expand commerce in the Town of Copake, and makes recommendations to the Town Board toward realization of those goals.

The goal of the Copake Connection is to share community success stories, spotlight special people or leaders and communicate the projects and activities on the CEAB agenda.  We hope you will enjoy this quarterly newsletter, share it with your neighbors, and visit us at one of our meetings!

The CEAB is currently working on several initiatives to promote Copake as a biking destination.

The CEAB along with Hillsdale will need to raise $40,000 in matching funds in order to access the grant funding.  The extension of the rail trail is a vital component toward that goal.

On November 12th The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation  awarded a matching grant of $121,965 for the Harlem Valley Rail Trail Planning and Design project.   The OPRHP received 259 grant applications.

All Copake outdoor enthusiasts are invited to assist in this exciting project.  For more information, please contact Leslie Wood by email: lwood@taconic.net

Featured Farm:  Langdonhurst - A Century Farm

 Langdonhurst Century Farm

John and Nellie Langdon have completed the process of donating a conservation easement on 75-acres that comprise the core of their present dairy operation.  The farm has exceptional agricultural soils, 95% of which are considered "prime" with the balance considered to be of statewide importance.  The conservation easement makes provisions to protect these and other important natural resources, while allowing the Langdons and future owners to continue to work the land and make improvements as needed to the farm.

The Langdonhurst farm in Copake, has been in the family since 1812.  It is one of six designated Century Farms in the county where the land has been under continuous cultivation by the same family for more than 100 years.

Memorial Clock Restoration Project

 copake clock v2

Congratulations to the Copake Community Service Corp for raising the first phase of funding necessary to begin restoration.  Fundraising events to complete the project are being planned for the spring.  For more information or to donate, visit Rus Davis at the Copake Pharmacy.

The restoration of the Copake Memorial Clock is proof that a dream can become a reality when vision is matched by effort.  Hundreds of donations ranging from pennies to fifties were stuffed into coffee cans at the registers of local merchants.  Grants were written and clock stories were told all over town.  Today the clock and all its parts are in Kansas, carefully being restored.  The Copake Memorial Clock is expected to return, fully restored in the Spring.

November 6th marked the opening of a brand new library to service the Copake and surrounding communities.  Over 500 individual donations, along with foundation and government grants were received to help pay for the beautiful new building.

Since the new library opened, over 200 new patrons have requested library cards and usage of all the library's services has soared.  In addition, there are programs for kids, tweens, teenagers and adults every week.  The slogan of the capital campaign was from dream to reality.  The library is truly a dream fulfilled and very much a reality.
