Dear OHIO Parents and Families,
I hope your new year has gotten off to a great start! The extended winter break can be a welcome relief for many students, faculty, and staff, but it is good to get back to the start of classes and see students back in Athens. I hope classes have gotten off to a great start for your daughter or son and that they are enjoying being back on campus with their friends. I am excited to let you know that after several months of renovation, Campus Care is open to students with a new look, a new layout, and improved operation. Campus Care works in conjunction with the faculty and staff in the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and University Medical Associates. I had the opportunity to visit for a preview in late December and was very impressed. These improvements will assist our staff to better serve and care for students. Next weekend is sure to be a great weekend in Athens and I am looking forward to seeing many of our OHIO Dads during our annual Dads Weekend. You are still able to purchase tickets to the OHIO v. Miami Men's Basketball game and Chicago City Limits here through Sunday, January 16 at 5:00pm. Winter Parents Weekend is in early February, and Sibs Weekend falls in mid-February. The Ohio University Alumni Association has worked with regional alumni chapters to offer bus transportation to and from campus for Sibs Weekend. Information on charter buses and GoBus transportation can be found here. I will be sure to provide information about Moms Weekend (May 4-May 6) in a future newsletter. Ohio University administrative offices will be closed on Monday, January 16 in honor of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As always, if there is anything my staff or I can do to assist, please do not hesitate to email or call us at 740-593-1800. Sincerely, Ryan Lombardi Dean of Students

Financial Aid and Scholarship Information
| | Now is the time to complete the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Now is the time to complete the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your student should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to ensure that the results are electronically received by Ohio University by our priority deadline of March 15, 2012.
Parental information is required on the FAFSA. Both students and parents should visit www.pin.ed.gov to obtain a U.S. Department of Education PIN to electronically sign the FAFSA. If you already have a PIN, you do not need a new one for the 12-13 FAFSA. We recommend filing the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov by February 15. Tax information is required on the FAFSA. However, you can use estimated tax information if your 2011 taxes are not yet complete. It is more important to submit the FAFSA early to ensure meeting the March 15 priority deadline then to wait and use actual tax information. Once your taxes are completed, you can correct your FAFSA online or send your tax information directly to the Office of Student Financial Aid. All students, including current freshmen, should complete the Continuing Student Scholarship Application available at www.ohio.edu/financialaid under "Important Links". Complete this application to apply for all continuing student scholarships for the 2012-13 year. The deadline to complete the scholarship application is March 18, 2012.

A Request and Message from Career Services
| | The Ohio University Job Shadow Program Needs You
As part of the 1804 Grant, the Ohio University Office of Career Services is piloting a job shadowing program and we would appreciate your participation. Starting in February, students in Applied Career Development will be required to shadow a professional in an area of their interest as part of a class requirement. One of the main goals for the job shadow program is for students to identify and further explore a career path that will help them develop the skills necessary to make informed career decisions. Professionals participating in the program will be expected to dedicate one working day in either February or March to host a student at their place of work and provide students a preview of the "real world". More details on specific expectations will be communicated after you sign up to be a potential participant. At this point, we are simply gathering a list of professionals who work in Ohio and are interested and willing to participate in the job shadow program. Once we have obtained the list of professionals, students will then have the opportunity to select a professional of interest during the first few weeks of class during Winter Quarter.
Please send Kristine Hoke (hoke@ohio.edu) an email stating your interest in participating and contact information including: your phone number, title, company, location and a brief description of your job.
Is a job or internship search part of your son or daughter's New Year's Resolution? The Winter Career & Internship Fair, sponsored by the Office of Career Services, will take place on Tuesday, January 31 from 10-3 in Baker University Center Ballroom. Of the 153 students who completed an evaluation of the Ohio University Fall Career & Internship Fair, 92.8% agreed or strongly agreed that it was a valuable experience. Encourage your son or daughter to take advantage of this on-campus opportunity!
