Welcome to The Mountain Company's Spring 2009 Newsletter!
Well officially Spring has not yet sprung, however in London the crocuses and daffodils are now out so it certainly feels like Spring has arrived! And of course, Spring is a good time to visit the Himalayas especially if you would like to see the rhododendrons in flower.
At the moment there are still some places on our treks in Nepal for March & April, the following treks are now guaranteed to run and have availability:
March
April
As for our treks in Pakistan this summer, Biafo Hispar Snow Lake in July and K2 & Gondogoro La in August, are also very close to becoming confirmed departures.
We are looking for one more person to make the minimum group size for the K2 & Gondogoro La trek and a couple more for Snow Lake. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in joining either of these treks.
Scroll down this Newsletter for information on our post monsoon treks, you might be interested in the special discount we are offering for the Dhaulagiri Circuit....
Roland will be in the UK until March 18th when he flies out to Nepal. Please call before then if you would like to discuss any of our treks with him, our office telephone number is '+44 (0)207 4980953.
While Roland is away Edward will be holding the fort answering calls and responding to emails until his return to the UK at the end of May.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Post monsoon treks in Nepal and Bhutan |
If you are thinking of trekking in Nepal during the post monsoon season in the Autumn (Fall) then you should consider booking flights quite soon. At the moment there are some unbelievable deals around for flights to Kathmandu.
Recently a client purchased flights from London to Kathmandu in October for £420 return. This is about half of the price compared to October '08!
To find the best deals we recommend you take a look at the flight comparison websites, if you are UK based check out Traveljungle.co.uk and for those of you from North America Cheaptickets.com
Many of our treks for the post monsoon season are now guaranteed to run, therefore you can go ahead and secure your flights at these great prices. The following treks are now definitely going ahead:
October
Dhaulagiri Circuit (special US$100 discount if you book before end of March and a further US$100 for repeat bookings)
November
Please get in touch if you are interested in joining any of these treks. |

Langtang & Laurebina La in November '09 led by Alan Ward |
Alan Ward is leading our Langtang & Laurebina La trek in November '09.
The Langtang is a beautiful area north of Kathmandu on the border with Tibet. This area tends to be overlooked as there are no 8,000 peaks nearby, however more than makes up for it with many spectacular 6,000m and 7,000m mountains.
As in the Everest and Annapurna regions there is a network of teahouse lodges in the Langtang so we plan to use them on this trek. Click here for more information on this trek and the photo gallery |
Our online bookstore |
In each E-Newsletter we select & review our favourite books and maps from our online book store. My favourite book from the last few months is the brand new 5th edition of Trekking in the Everest region by Jamie McGuinness.
"This is the new recently updated 5th edition. The Trailblazer guidebook is the best available if you are planning to trek in the Khumbu. Highly recommended (Roland Hunter, The Mountain Company)"

To purchase this book please click on the book image above and then go to "Books, maps and DVDs" link on left hand side of the page.
