Call for Entries: "Pattern in Painting"

Pattern as a design principle can be simply defined as repetition of a shape or form within a work.  The separating interval may be regular or changing, but such a repetition creates a rhythm.  These patterns are never accidental.  They play an outstanding role in communicating the meaning of the work.

Submit your own work that relies on pattern to do the heavy lifting of communicating your intent.
Email one or two jpgs with your name and painting title in the label of each jpg.  Paintings may have been made in any medium but must be created in the last two years and must be your original work.
In the body of the email please be sure to provide your full name, your website link, the title, medium and dimensions of the work as well as the year it was created.
Labor Day, September 3, 2012 is the deadline for entries.
Submissions go to HyllaEvans@gmail.com.

There is no fee to enter and the work does not need to be shipped.
             On Teaching Encaustic
I have posted some information on teaching on the Evans Encaustics blog.
There has been fervent discussion about the wide range of classes available.  Sadly, a proliferation of teachers who have not been adequately trained or experienced simply should not be teaching.  Art institutions and students need to do background research on prospective teachers.  Be selective not only about the art that teacher makes but about her training and teaching experience.  It is reasonable to ask for references from past students, institutions, or other teachers.  We want everyone to succeed!
If you wish to train for our Certification as Master Teacher in Encaustic, please email me directly.  You must already have knowledge of encaustic painting, skills, and significant classroom experience as a teacher.

                                August Special
Medium Cakes 120ml
Every order this month that includes Paint Sticks will receive a free 120 ml cake of encaustic medium.  That's a $12 value, meaning it offsets the cost of US shipping.  Good time to order!
New and Custom Colors

Khaki
Fairly often new colors are added, perhaps beginning as custom colors for artists or as a result of experimentation in my own studio.  Colors are announced first on the blog and then in the encaustic group on facebook. In the case of Khaki, we had a contest to see who could guess the ingredients.  After over 60 people took their guesses, Gregory Wright nailed it and won $100 in Evans Encaustics paints.  Congrats, Greg, well done!
The Khaki was such a hit at The Conference, I've added it to the online catalog.
It's always good to follow your blogs and news.  Keep me posted on all you're doing in your careers!

Sincerely,

Hylla Evans
