M Diamond RanchM Diamond Ranch - What's old is new again!

During Arizona's Centennial year, in the Rimrock/Beaver Creek area near Sedona, what's old is new again! From the mid-1920's to 1940 the area had three very well-known Dude Ranches. The Rimrock Airstrip is the oldest continuously operating air strip in Arizona, and it was created to bring guests to the Rimrock Ranch. Irvin Walker, who homesteaded the M Diamond Ranch in 1908, called square dances at the Soda Springs Ranch when he wasn't busy gathering wild horses and raising cattle. The M Diamond has been a working cattle ranch for more than 100 years and has been hosting guests from Sedona for horseback rides and cowboy cookouts for 10 years. Now folks can stay at the only working ranch open to visitors and the only guest ranch in the Sedona Verde Valley area. Guests will learn plenty of local history and enjoy the wide open spaces, spectacular sunsets and dark star-filled skies which have not changed much since the hey day of Dude Ranches in this area. Turquoise Tortoise Gallery Celebrates Valentine's Day

Reception February 3

TTFebruary's exhibition at Turquoise Tortoise Gallery focuses on Valentine's Day and features the warm charm of artist Bear Romero's alabaster sculptures; the show opens February 3rd during Sedona's "1st Friday Gallery Tour" from 5-8 pm. The gallery is always a favorite destination for Valentine's Day with its wide collection of jewelry, both Native American and Southwest representing a range of prices; and with sculpture, paintings and Zapotec rugs, there are always plenty of options. Romero's tabletop-sized carvings, from small to substantive, with round contemporary lines, are usually of bears, each with its own beguiling personality and often with an orange alabaster or alalone salmon in its mouth. Every one of them begs to have its smooth surface stroked. This special exhibition runs through February 14. TurquoiseTortoiseGallery.com, 928-282-2262.

Lanning Gallery Presents "A Gift from the Heart" Opening Reception February 3

A reception opens this special exhibition during Sedona's "1st Friday Gallery Tour" February 3, from 5-8 pm. One of the featured artists will be Valerie Ostenak, a unique and award-winning jeweler who forges sterling silver with hammers and anvil and heat forges steel into infinitely wearable elegant necklaces, earrings and cuffs, often adding delicate pearls. "For me, steel is a very feminine material," Ostenak notes. "When heated to a yellow orange heat, it becomes sensuous and graceful ... I can create the flowing forms of vines, the movement of gently blowing breezes and smooth running streams. And when the steel cools, it is a lasting record of those graceful forms and flow."
