 avocado.jpgGreetings!
I am writing this issue just 48 hours after a moment of great change and history in our country.  Most people everywhere seem excited.  The energy is running high with positive feelings of hope.

What great time to ride this wave.  It is always easiser to move forward in a time when there is positive energy. Often, New Years is a time that cam propel you   towards action.  But, it certainly feels as if the time is now.  Don't you agree?

If you have been wanting to feel more vitality, to loose that weight, to get a new job, eat better, create a relationship that feels good, strengthen your ties to family or simply start an exercise routine, then maybe you want to jump on the bandwagon of this new wave of energy.  Why not? It's here.  I'm certainly jumping on.  I hope you'll join me.

With warmest wishes,
Alyse
"YES WE CAN"
  And You Can Too

"What you do for yourself, you do for another.  What you do for another, you do for yourself."
       ~ Neale Donald Walsch

Man & Woman jumpingWhat do you do when the energy flow is high?  Do you talk about what you would like to do and then get busy or distracted and end up doing nothing?  That happens a lot of us.

On Tuesday evening, President-elect Obama thanked many, for not only holding the vision for hope and change, but for taking the action towards getting us there.

The vision was clear.

The action was taken.

The goal was met.

Having a goal is important.  Goals are like a destination on a road map, helping you  know where you are going.  Do you have a goal for the next week?  The next month or even the next year?

Not having a goal is like getting into your car and driving around and around, not  having a final destination.  With the cost of gas these days, I can't imagine you'd want to do that.

Everyday you make hundreds of choices.  Every choice that you make actually moves you towards a goal.  Which goal are you moving towards?  Is it  one you truly desire?  If you want to have a healthier body, then your choices need to be around eating whole and healthy foods that bring you good nutrition.  If you are like me, I bet sometimes you forget that goal when a piece of chocolate or fancy treat is available. Or, after a long day at work, is it easier to drive through the nearest fast food restaurant then remember what your long term goal of loosing those last few pounds?

The best method for reaching your goals is to have clear action steps in addition to support for your accountability in making them.

If we can do it as a country and take on one of the largest goals there is, then I hope you know that I believe you can also reach your dreams.

Why wait for the New Year?  Jump on the energy now, join the "Yes We Can" movement and say, "Yes I Can". You are so worth it.

A Healthy Thanksgiving
A Few Quick Tips

Nothing can be more challenging than staying on a healthy eating regime during the holiday season. Here are a few quick tips.

1. Set goals for yourself and decide how you will stick to them.  And be sure to give yourself a healthy, non-food reward. i.e. rent a good movie, take a hot bath, have a date with your spouse or a friend, read a book, take a walk or go to a museum for the afternoon.

2.  Make and bring something to share that you know you can eat.  If you bring healthy food, you will not only be teaching others, but will have something safe for yourself to keep you away from the temptations.

3.  Substitute Barley Malt, Agave Nectar or Brown Rice Syrup in your baked goods.  You will need to reduce the other liquids in your recipe to compensate for one of these.  You can check online for the exact ratios or recipes.

4.  Eat sweet vegetables and satisfy your sweet tooth before dessert is served.  But, be careful to keep away from sweet potatoes with added sugars.  Eat squash, sweet potatoes or a host of root vegetables that can even be simmered together - from carrots and onions to turnips, parsnips and rutabaga. You will find these are all quite satisfying and a positive way to get your sugars.

5.  Decide in advance if you will have seconds or not.  Impulse can be a real trickster and lead you to eat more than you want.

6.  Have a wonderful cup of herbal tea for dessert while everyone else is gaining calories.

Remember to reward yourself for making as many of these healthy choices as possible and. .  . .

Happy Thanksgiving!
It's True Nature

avocado.jpgRecently I was giving a Healthy Shopping Tour.  We spent about an hour in the produce section, looking at all of the beautiful colors, touching the vegetables and noticing the tremendous variety of edibles that were available to nourish our bodies.

One of the most important things that I tell people when we are on this tour is to notice, as urban city dwellers, there is not as much green in our lives as in the lives of people who live in other parts of the country.  To be healthy and peaceful, we need green.

Green is nature and nature is calming, peaceful and if you have ever taken a quiet walk through the forest, you know that it is filled with oxygen.  Oxygen is vital for good health.  The best way I have discovered, to get all of the beneftis of living among nature is to bring nature into you.  You can do this by eating a good variety of fruits and vegetables.  Eating dark green vegetables, especially the leafy ones is a way to bring the forest and all of its benefits, into you.

I invite you to join me on my next Healthy Shopping Tour and experience the fragrence, the feeling, the peace and the power of connecting to mother nature - right there in the grocery store.  Most people tell me that after the tour, they will never view the produce department in the same way.

Learning about the benefits of eating more dark green vegetables is so important.  These gifts of nature can make a difference in your energy, your mood, your skin and your health.

If you are interested in a Healthy Shopping Tour for you and your friends or would like to talk further, please email me at emailalyse@aol.com .

Remember!  Eat your veggies.  Live true nature.   You will feel oh, so good for doing it.
