Recognition of Excellence

Girl Scouts who have earned their Girl Scout Silver, Girl Scout Gold and Girl Scouts Heart of Central California Rose Awards will be receiving them at the Recognition of Excellence ceremonies in May 2010.  All graduating Seniors will also have the opportunity to be recognized.  Girls will be invited to choose from two ceremonies, Sunday, May 16 at the Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento, or Sunday may 23 at the Modesto council office.  In mid-April invitations will be mailed to Girl Scouts who have earned these awards.  please call if an invitation is not received by May 7.  It is mandatory for girls to RSVP to participate in the ceremony of their choosing.  Troop leaders, parents and advisors are encouraged to attend in support of their girls.  Please see the invitations that the girls will receive for details or e-mail us for more information at [email protected] or [email protected].

Super Star Service Units

As we work together towards bringing Girl Scouts to every girl, we set a goal to increase the number of girls we serve.  This year we are working towards serving 2% more girls than last year.  Thank you to all the volunteers putting forth so much time and energy to make this happen! We appreciate you!  Click here to see a list of Super Star Service Units...

Is Your Troop Planning a Trip?

If the girls in the troop are interested in planning a trip for 3 or more nights and/or 250 miles, then this is called Extended Troop Travel and girls and adults need to attend Trip Planning.  For most of our council, Disneyland or Sea World in San Diego fall under the extended travel criteria because of the mileage.  Travel request forms need to be submitted at least 4 months prior to travel for domestic trips and up to one year in advance for international travel.  Additional insurance must be purchased; you can obtain more information about this from the council insurance specialist in the main council office.  If you need more information about Extended Troop Travel, please contact the travel consultant at the main council office, 800-322-4475.
destinations and Older Girls

Did you know that travel across the US and the world is available to girls through the destinations program?  Just go to www.studio2b.org/escape/destinations and explore all the travel possibilities available to older girls.  To make your selected destination possible, our council has received a grant from GSUSA to help defray some of the program fees.  Contact the program department at 800-322-4475 for details and deadlines.

Due to Instructor Constraints, We are not able to Offer Basic Lifeguard Training This Year

However, if you want to become a certified Lifeguard, we have a process in place to help you. Check with your local Recreation and Park district, community college or community pool for their ARC Basic Lifeguard course offerings. Successfully complete that course and contact [email protected] for details regarding adding Waterfront Lifeguard certification. The Waterfront Lifeguard certification is needed if you plan to guard at a lake, river or stream. The Waterfront Lifeguard certification is a 5 hour course and is good for 3 years. Please contact Liz Williams if you have further questions.

Uniquely Me! Grant Volunteers Needed!

Opportunities will be available in Modesto and Merced though the end of March, and in Sacramento, Woodland and Stockton through the end of April. Let's Go Camping!

Spring is here, and Girl Scout thoughts turn to outdoor fun. Our outdoor classes are designed to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to enjoy outdoor activities with girls. Register for one of the many outdoor classes available to Girl Scout volunteers. You don't have to be a leader to take these classes, others often serve as the troop camp trained person for a troop.
