Girl Scouts are finding new ways to Discover, Connect and Take Action all the time. The letter below was sent in as a thank you for Troop to Troop Cookie donations.
"My name is Dennis Wilson, I am currently on a deployment with KFOR11 in Kosovo. I have been here for four months and I have seven months left. I keep seeing boxes of Girl Scout Cookies with a sticker on them that says "operation interdependency Thank You", it makes us feel remembered back at home and like someone cares. I just wanted to say thank you. You are awesome." |
Girl Scout Troop 1265 culminated its hard work on the Girl Scout Bronze Award when they donated their collected and handmade items to SSPCA February 4, 2009. The nine girls have been diligently working on earning this top award for Junior Girl Scouts for over a year now. While it is an individual award, the girls wanted to earn the award together as a troop, and like most other young girls who share a love of animals, they decided on helping out our local SSPCA.
The award requires the girls to come up with a project and take several steps, including earning the Girl Scout Junior Aide Patch and other individual badges, before they actually begin the minimum of 15 hours of community service. They began by collecting items for SSPCA at each meeting.
Then they worked together making fleece blankets and catnip-filled cat toys to add to their donations. Earning this Girl Scout Bronze Award develops leadership skills. The girls felt a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing that their collected and handmade items would be put to good use. |
If your troop, or Girl Scout, has a story about an award they've earned, or something they've done to Discover, Connect and Take Action send it in to marcomm@girlscoutshcc.org
and you could read about your girls in the next Celebrate. |
