| Message from the CEO
|
Dear (Contact First Name), Another year of Girl Scouts is just around the corner. It seems like every year, Girl Scouts are going new places and reaching for higher goals.
We are exited to announce that October 1st will mark the beginning of our new membership and fiscal year. Girl Scouts of the USA has created fantastic new materials this year for our girls to discover, connect, and take action through a program for each age level. The theme, "It's Your World - Change it", encourages our girls to get out into their communities and carry out the Girl Scout mission to change the world around them.
Please be sure to use the Web site as a tool to stay informed about Girl Scout activities in your area!

10 Day Challenge Inspires Troop to Make a Difference
|
By Autumn B. Brown, Communications Specialist
Girl Scouts are always looking for new ways to impact their communities. Especially as girls get older, many of the traditional community service projects have already been done. Girl Scout Troop 24 put their heads together to challenge themselves to try something different.
Their Girl Scout Leaders were inspired through Oprah's Big Give, which focused on 10 people, as they traveled across the country, trying to help people in unique ways.
Each of the members of Girl Scout Troop 24 was asked to participate in the Troop Challenge. The nine girls were given $10 of their hard earned Girl Scout Cookie money and just 10 days to execute their plan to make a difference within the community. While each girl tackled the challenge differently, they were each successful in their own way. They all said that if they were to do it again there were things they would do differently. Here are their tips!
Girl Scout Troop 24's Top 10 Ways to Make a Difference with Just $10 1. Do what you want! - Use your heard to decide what you want to do! 2. Be positive! - No matter how you decide to help others, you make a difference. 3. Have fun! - People are going to be excited that you want to give something to them and it is important for you to be excited too. 4. Don't worry! - No matter how big or how small your impact is, it is YOUR random act of kindness. 5. Use your talents. - If you are good at something particular, like baking or taking care of animals, focus on that. Try to use your talent to your advantage. 6. Don't stress! - 10 days is really longer than you think! 7. Take pictures! - You are going to feel good about what you do and pictures will help you to remember the experience. 8. Learn about the organization or people that you donate your money to. - Knowing a little more about where your money is going to makes it more special. 9. Make it bigger! - Ask family, friends, and local businesses to donate to your cause. 10. Say Thank you. - Even though you are giving to others, thank them for the opportunity!

| Parents Make it Happen |
On every survey, the biggest request from troop leaders is always the same, "How can I get my girls' parents to help more?" This question comes up because troop leaders know that some of the best troops have active parents.
Remember Girl Scout volunteers are giving their time to help build girls of courage, confidence, and character. By offering your time and talents, you will help build an even stronger group of girls!
- Offer your support and assistance to your daughter's troop leader. Maybe you have a special skill or hobby that you could share with the girls!
- Skim through your daughter's handbook, Try-It, or badge book and see what you might be able to help the girls earn.
- Do you love to surf the internet? You could help by researching interesting activites for the girls to participate in for their Try-It or badge requirements.
- Love to shop? You could purchase items for the next troop activity or meeting.
- Are you the outdoors type? Take our Introduction to Outdoors class and learn the basics! The girls will love learning about cooking outdoors, knot tying skills, and much more.
- Send your daughter's troop leader a thank you card.
- Register as an Adult Girl Scout!
