October is a busy month at Springer!

  

Our Family Association is putting the finishing touches on plans for next week's fun family outing. And Springer alumni visited last week to share their experiences with current students. 

 

The center's parent program on Executive Function and ADHD attracted record attendance in September, and two more evenings for parents are on the schedule for October and November.

Springer Bike Hike Rolls this Weekend

Anticipation is building for one of the Springer community's favorite fall events. The 37th annual Bike Hike and Family Picnic will roll out on Sunday, October 23, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.   

 

bike hike 10In addition to a bike or hike around the lake at Sharon Woods, there will be games, crafts and a cook-out at the Lakeside Lodge. Students have been gathering sponsorships in recent weeks, and funds raised will support SFA activities throughout the year.

Currently a senior at Elder High School, Springer graduate evan phillipsEvan Phillips plans to join the Army after graduation, citing inspiration from a grandfather who served in the Korean War.

 

After his military service, Evan plans to attend the University of Cincinnati and study architecture.

Learning to read is one of the most important tasks a student undertakes. Springer can help you pave the way for reading success at home in this two-hour workshop for parents.  

 

We'll give you strategies for helping your child with sounding out words, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension.

Scaling New Heights

griffin fullerNationally top-ranked in his age category in competitive rock climbing, graduate Griffin Fuller got his start on the climbing wall in the Springer gym when he was in second grade. 

 

Griffin is currently a junior at Mariemont High School. He has climbed at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky, and in Colorado and Utah.  

Springer Grads Share Their Experience

after springer student panelFour Springer alumni and their parents met with 70 Upper School students and parents last week to talk about their experiences in transitioning from Springer to high school.  

 

Organized by Placement Director Terri Moorhead (at right in photo), "What After Springer?" offers an opportunity for students and their parents to ask questions of those who have been down this road before them.

 

All high school sophomores, this year's student panel included Greg Brugger (attending Loveland High School), Jacob Henderson (Holy Cross), Kaysia Wilson (Purcell Marian) and Ryan Pflaum (LaSalle).

For 40 years, Springer School and Center has empowered students with learning disabilities to become strategic learners. Springer offers a day school for students ages 6-13 and outreach programs and learning disability resources for students, parents and teachers in the Greater Cincinnati area.
