Greetings!
As the 2010-2011 school year draws to a close, students are looking forward to end-of-year events such as the All School Outing to the Cincinnati Sports Club and Springer's Recognition Assembly.
Some are preparing for Commencement, and the transition to a new school next year.
All have reason to celebrate the advances they have made this year and to be proud of their tremendous accomplishments!

| Springer Celebration a Resounding Success!
Great American Ball Park was alive with peace signs, tie-dyed T-shirts and '70s music on April 27th, as nearly 300 Springer friends gathered to celebrate Springer's 40th Anniversary.
Dr. Mark Helmick (center), a psychologist at Springer for 36 of its 40 years, took the assemblage on a tour of the decades and introduced four guest speakers, Springer alumni from across the years. Graduates Alan Kleesattel ('06) (from left), Peter Cholak ('74), Chelsey Schneider ('88) and Mike Kamphake ('92) spoke of the powerful impact a Springer education had on their lives.
Reprising his role from last year, Local 12 WKRC-TV Sports Director Brad Johansen enthusiastically served as emcee and auctioneer. Springer's premier fundraising event, this year's Celebration realized net proceeds in excess of $100,000, which will be used to provide critical financial aid and outreach programs for the children and families affected by learning disabilities in our region.

Springer to Share Reading Strategies with Area Educators
Each year Springer reaches out to hundreds of educators in Greater Cincinnati, helping them to better understand and teach their students who struggle with reading proficiency. In June, Springer's center will host a week-long course for education professionals that highlights strategies for teaching reading.
A Multisensory Approach to Reading Success (MARS) will run from June 13th to 17th at Springer's campus. The program will strengthen the classroom teacher's understanding of the components of linguistics, and will offer hands-on guides and activities that equip educators to bring what they learn into their classrooms to affect reading outcomes for students. "If I would give credit to anyone...
for having the most significant impact on my life, all my thanks would go to Springer!" - Chelsey Schneider, 1988 Springer graduate and school psychologist |
Grateful for the End of the School Year? Worried about the Next One?
When a child struggles in school, the entire family feels the effects. Springer's summer enrichment program, Adventures in Summer Learning, can help your child build basic skills and become a more confident learner.
The four-week morning program offers strategies for building and retaining skills in language arts, math, writing and problem solving, and is for students entering grades 1 - 6.
Students entering grades 1 - 8 can take advantage of afternoon classes addressing written language, math, art, music, handwriting or social skills.
Classes are filling up! Invest now in a better next year!

COSI Brings the Natural World to Springer's Gym
Through their "COSI on Wheels" program, the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus filled Springer's gym with interactive activities designed to pique students' curiosity about nature and ecology.
Students went "bird-watching" and discovered the birds one would expect to see in a variety of habitats. From a mock canoe, students caught magnetized fish, which they measured and identified. A variety of hands-on displays allowed students to explore pelts, skulls and insect s. The all-school assembly that launched COSI's visit was as entertaining as it was educational. A student dressed as a duck illustrated the dangers of discarded six-pack rings, and the tracking of animals with radio telemetry was demonstrated on a teacher-sized "bear!" It gave me a life!

Track Team Off to a Running Start!
 | | Third and fourth grade team, coached by Mrs. Kelly | Springer's track team has been training hard and has three track meets under their belts. "I've seen great improvement with each meet," said Upper School coach Mark Phelps, "and the lessons go beyond their performance on the field. The team's 'golden rule' is whenever a blue Springer shirt is on the track, everyone stops and cheers!"
Seventy-seven students strong, the Springer team will attend its final meet, the CYO City Championship, at Elder Sports Complex on May 14. Come out and cheer on the team!
