Observances of Springer's 40th anniversary continue throughout the year, as we look forward to our April 27th fundraiser, A Springer Celebration!

This month, students joined in the celebration! With input from every classroom, Springer's Student Council led a collaborative effort to compile a list of 40 ways Springer helps students with learning disabilities.

"The final conference was very helpful. We were amazed at the level of knowledge that the teachers had about our daughter after a short time with her. The recommendations were practical and specific to her learning style."

Springer Supports Alumni Parents with Post-Secondary Program

Whenmulcahey guiding a student with learning disabilities through the transition to college, there are many factors to consider. In February, Springer offered a workshop that provided resources to parents of Springer graduates. "Navigating the Jump to Post-Secondary Education" surveyed services and programs available at Ohio colleges, and advised parents on negotiating the college admissions process.

Presented by Dr. Mary Ann Mulcahey, the workshop also counseled parents in helping their child grow in independence, and reviewed post-secondary options other than the traditional four-year college.

40 Years of Leadership
Presidents of Springer's Board of Directors from across the years gathered in March for a luncheon with past and current Executive Directors. Conversation around the table made it clear that Springer has never strayed from its mission to serve students and families impacted by learning disabilities.

"Springer's 40th anniversary is an excellent time to recognize those who preceded us," noted 2008-09 and 2009-10 Board President Tom Leugers. "I enjoyed every minute. I knew about decisions that had been made in the past, but it was fascinating to hear the 'whys' behind those decisions."

The meeting was attended by previous Executive Directors Sr. Mary Jean Fields, Sr. Marianne Van Vurst, Dr. Norita Aplin and current Executive Director Shelly Weisbacher. Board Presidents in attendance included Richard Niedhard, Tony Hobson, Garret Frey, Russ Wilson, Ernie Lewis, Tom Leugers, Paul Wenker and Randy Cooper.

All School Quest Draws on the Power of a Story

all school questEach year Springer students gather their attention on a single theme, spending months in exploration that culminates with a project fair where they display their work. This year's All School Quest theme is "Power of a Story."

Students will explore how the stories we hear motivate, inspire and influence us. They will discover the process through storytelling, writing and examining the writing of others. The student's projects will be displayed in the gym and cafeteria at the All School Quest event at 7:00 p.m., March 24.
