Greetings!

Spring is a busy time here at Springer!  We recently held our annual All School Quest, which showcased student work around the topic of "Celebrating Citizenship." Upper School students are in Washington D.C. this week, we're making final preparations for A Springer Celebration! with special guest, Dana Buchman, and end-of-the-year activities are being planned. The school year may be winding down, but the learning, work, and fun keeps going strong!

The Countdown Begins...

Have you made your reservations or bought your raffle tickets yet?? There isn't much time left! In less than two weeks on May 5th, A Springer Celebration! takes place with guest speaker, Dana Buchman. Ms. Buchman, fashion designer, author, and mother of a daughter with learning disabilities, will share anecdotes from her personal story.

Award-winning Author to Visit Springer

On May 19th, Shelley Pearsall will be at Springer! Shelley was the recipient of the prestigious Scott O'Dell Award for Trouble Don't Last in 2003 and also received the ALA Notable Book Award in 2007 for All of the Above. She will be meeting with the primary, intermediate and upper school departments individually. The featured book for the visit will be All of the Above, a delightful and suspenseful story of four inner city students and their quest to set a math record by building the world's largest tetrahedron. The Visiting Author program is sponsored by the Springer Parent Association.

Celebrating Citizenship
at the All School Quest

On March 25th, families and friends gathered to admire and enjoy the hard work Springer students put into their study of "Celebrating Citizenship." The All School Quest is an annual experience where students and staff explore a common theme and share their work with the extended Springer community. The Quest is noncompetitive and open to all forms of expression. It offers an opportunity for all students to feel successful and proud of their accomplishments. Check out these great pictures!

Primary Classrooms Read and Make a Difference in the World!

Students in Primary completed a citizenship project as part of the All School Quest through the Heifer International "Read to Feed" program.  Heifer International lends support to impoverished families world-wide.  Students had family and friends pledge money for each book they read during a specific time frame.  The money was then collected and used to buy animals.  Miss Ilg's class raised money to purchase chicks.  Mrs. Staud's class was able to purchase a llama, and Mrs. Thomas' class (pictured below) purchased a goat.  Each of these animals is given to a family to provide food and help them move toward self-reliance.  Congratulations to Primary students on their accomplishments!
