Greetings!

Even while snow covers the ground, we anticipate the warmth and beauty of spring!  January and February are months of burrowing down, digging deep, and working hard to get at the core of what we are all about...helping students find success in their school experience.  However, just as we wait for the arrival of spring flowers, we watch as children who were struggling begin to show signs of budding and growth in their learning.  How marvelous the blooms will be!
Can't make it during the week?  Come to our Sunday Open House!
Join us Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 1:30-3:00p.m.  If you've been wanting to learn more about Springer but needed a weekend visit, this is your chance!  We will be here to welcome prospective families and community professionals with a presentation & video from 1:30-2:00 and student-led tours from 2:00-3:00.

Sharing Knowledge-Center Director Presenting at Remarkable Families Symposium
Springer's Center Director, Barbara Hunter, will participate in a panel at Xavier University's Remarkable Families Symposium on Friday, March 26th from noon to 8:30p.m.  The symposium, sponsored by the College of Social Sciences, Health and Education, is for regional parents who are raising children with special needs, and its purpose is to provide parents the opportunity to learn to not only survive, but to thrive and build resiliency within their family.
schoolHearts and Houses for Haiti
Springer students have BIG hearts!  Student Council recently brainstormed ways students could contribute to the rescue and relief efforts benefiting the people of Haiti.  The result?  Hearts and Houses for Haiti.  Under the guidance of Springer's award-winning art teacher, Corrinne Thaler, students used free time to design and make pins with a house or heart motif.  These pins were sold to students, families, and staff.  All money collected was donated to the American Red Cross.
Art and Music Residencies Enrich Springer Experiencelj air
Each year, Springer students benefit from working with and learning from a professional artist and musician, thanks to the Maureen Wenker Artist in Residence and the Norita Aplin Musician in Residence Programs.  The residencies typically last one to two weeks, with a culminating performance or presentation for the Springer community.  This year's Artist in Residence was Molly Zakrajsek, whose expertise is in the area of graphic art.  The Musician in Residence (currently working with students) is James Hart, Adjunct Professor of Music at Xavier University, who teaches electronic music and music theory.
We Love Our Students!
The 2nd annual Student Appreciation Day was held on February 12, 2010.  Different activities in the classroomschool focused on celebrating the strengths and contributions of our students.  The highlight of the day was the Sundae Bar during lunch.  What a great day to be a Springer student!
