Greetings!

Spring is almost here!  Springer students and staff are enjoying the warmer weather and delighting in the successes of the students.  Many of the learning strategies the students are taught are taking hold, becoming more routine. A former student who stopped in recently said that the strategies he learned at Springer are integrated into his daily life now at college. He isn't aware that he's using them - they are so much a part of how he learns and approaches life. And that is the empowerment that Springer gives to our students - the ability to take charge of their own learning destiny.
Adventures in Summer Learning 2009
June 22nd - July 17th

Let this be your child's best summer for learning!

Since 1992, Adventures in Summer Learning has helped children become more confident learners and improve their basic skills. Our four-week morning program, for children entering grades 1-6, provides small group, strategic instruction in language arts, math, writing, and group problem solving. Our additional PLUS programs consist of specialized courses in writing, math, art, handwriting, and social skills for students to grade 8. Click here to find out more.
Meet the Chairs!

Chairing Springer's annual fundraiser, A Springer Celebration!, on April 22nd, are Martha Millet, Caryn Franke and Cindy Stephens. Martha is a Springer alumni parent and Trustee, while Caryn and Cindy both have children currently attending Springer. Caryn and Cindy have reprised their leadership roles from last year - having co-chaired the 2008 event auction. You can support their efforts by sponsoring or hosting a table, donating to the auction, making an individual reservation, or by volunteering.  Proceeds will support financial aid and outreach programs.  Many thanks to our chairs!
Students Learning to Reuse and Recycle

As part of this year's All School Quest, Taking Care of Planet Earth, Springer Upper School students are having an in-school field trip on Monday, March 16th to learn about Fantastic Plastic! This hands-on 45-minute program, presented by Clear Science, teaches kids the rules on recycling plastic, the physical properties of matter and great reuse activity ideas. As a follow-up on March 25th, the students will tour local recycling leader, Rumpke, to watch the behind-the-scenes recycling process in action.
Springer to Host Illustrator Loren Long

Children's illustrator and author Loren Long will join Springer students and staff on Friday, March 27th as this year's Visiting Author.  Long is a two-time Golden Kite award winner and New York Times #1 bestselling illustrator who has created illustrations for book covers, magazines, and children's books.  Cincinnati Magazine said of Long's work: "The illustrations have a timeless feeling - one of Long's great gifts." His children's books include a new edition of Watty Piper's The Little Engine Who Could; the picture book, Drummer Boy; Madonna's story, Mr. Peabody's Apples; and Angela Johnson's I Dream of Trains.
