Greetings!
Welcome to Springer's debut online newsletter!  We hope that you find this to be a valuable resource for information about learning disabilities, and Springer School and Center.  Please let us know your comments and suggestions.  Happy September!
Springer and the University of Cincinnati Join Forces

University of Cincinnati logoThe Harriette R. Williams Downey Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation recently awarded a grant of $250,000 for Collaborating for Collaboration (C4C), a new collaborative partnership between Springer School and Center and the University of Cincinnati's Department of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services (CECH). Projected to continue through 2011, this joint effort features training for pre-service teachers in the identification of learning disabilities while actively involving them in collaborative teaching with their mentor teachers, intervention specialists and other critical school personnel. On Their Own Turn Your Radio On!

Anne Ford, guest speaker at Springer's 2008 A Sprnger Celebration! on April 30th, was interviewed by WVXU 91.7 while in Cincinnati.  The podcast of her interview with Barbara Gray, which aired on August 31st, can be accessed here.  The Around Cincinnati segment focused on Mrs. Ford's new book on learning disabilities, On Their Own, co-authored with John-Richard Thompson.
Center Director Authors Dyslexia Article

In honor of National Dyslexia Awareness Month, the October issue of Cincinnati Parent magazine will feature "Could My Child's Reading Problems be Dyslexia?" by Barbara Hunter, Center Director. Look for the article in the "Special Needs" column at your newstand, or on Cincinnati Parent's website in early October.  For earlier viewing, the article can also be accessed on Springer's website.
Springer Student Artwork Gains National, State, and Local Recognition

Under the guidance of Springer art teacher, Corrinne Thaler, three Springer students have gained recognition for their artwork in recent months.  Anna Harty's multi-media collage was the featured art for the Hyde Park Square Art Show promotional poster. Patrick Schenk received national placement when his tempera painting "A Walk Through the Jungle" was selected for the cover of the September/October 2008 issue of the Journal of Learning Disabilities. The Summer 2008 issue of ARTline, a publication of the Ohio Art Education Association, chose Mac Sudbrack's mixed media painting for the cover. Congratulations to our talented Springer students!
