Steve Katsos, is undoubtedly ACMi's best known member-producer and his show has already reached at least nine countries and up to 13 million homes. As he begins his third year of production here at ACMi, we salute his initiative and perseverance in pursuing his goal to go national (if not galactic) with his series showcasing New England's creative talent.
Kudos also to the forty volunteer crew members that descend on ACMi Tuesday evenings to produce the show. Greek boy, go!

ACMi's Black Box This new floor makes the ACMi studio a black box production environment.
We've been talking about it for at least a year and now we finally have our black studio floor. It makes for a more controlled and uniform environment for lighting.

The Low Hum of Summer

Bees and butterflies have made our front yard a favorite stopover for sightseeing and shopping this summer, so there is a constant low hum of activity there if you bend your ear near the thriving plant life. The whirring of air conditioning fans and the intermittent slow whoosh of Park Ave traffic could lull a person to sleep were it not for the heat.

Inside Number 85, busy bees are at work in the merciful cool bringing Arlington cable and internet viewers an array of recorded local events, meetings, announcements, and other programming to fill the gaps in network fare and to connect our townspeople with the doings and opinions of their neighbors and government agencies. Local folks of all ages and interests are lending a hand or directing new shows to populate our smorgesbord of TV offerings for viewer consumption.
The Arlington Community Media Board and Staff renew the invitation to all Arlington residents and organizations to learn the ways ACMi can introduce you to the digital video age and help you create something memorable to share with our town. The doors are open this summer here at ACMi and something new and exciting is always happening at 85 Park Ave in The Heights. Give us a call to arrange a visit.
We look forward to hearing from you.

SummerFun 2011 a Success
ACMi hosted, during the week of July 25-29, its third weeklong TV production workshop for middleschool-aged youth in association with the Arlington Community Education (ACE) SummerFun program. Once again this year a dozen energetic kids trouped across our threshold to learn the art (and a little science) of videocraft and filmmaking here at Arlington's community access television facility on Park Ave.
A dozen local students and six ACMi staffers and interns gather for an icebreaker activity to start off the 2011 weeklong workshop. The learning activities are fun and are designed to develop the creative and technical skills that can be used later to good effect in an increasingly media-savvy world.

Keeping the Free Press Free We cannot fulfill our obligation to our viewers without keeping them (you) up to date on conditions that may affect freedom of speech and the press--for that is what community media access is charged by its communities to do. In that spirit of keeping our viewers informed, we offer the following link to the alliance of community PEG media organizations like ours. Thank you for your interest in free and independent public information media. To learn more about what our national Alliance for Community Media is doing to help, visit here. |
Membership has its privileges
Where else in Arlington can you receive training and practice in a set marketable skills for the price of dinner and a show?
Chief among the perqs that attend ACMi membership is a reduced-fee for all ACMi workshops. See our current workshops
at www.ACMI.tv. And, if you have a documentary or dramatic project, a film short, or green-screen project you've been wanting to make and put up on YouTube or your website, we have what you need: top quality digital equipment, the training to put it to work for your project, and an experienced staff to guide you.
What do we get out of this amazing deal? We get interesting, informative, and creative programming for our Public Access channel. So wait no longer! Come make ACMi your launching pad to the world of new media and community connections. The doors are open here Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Friday 10-5.
(Beginning in September, hours will be 10-7 M-Th; 10-5 on Fridays.)
We look forward to welcoming you soon at 85 Park Avenue.
