First comes Spring Fever, then comes graduation. ACMI will be on hand once again to capture the rapture and bittersweet symbolism of solo fledging flight as AHS and AC grads snag their diplomas and head for the joys and tribulations of post-high-school life. And before all that comes to pass, ACMI will cover the annual AHS senior honor awards event for subsequent cablecast. DVDs will be available for proud students, parents, and relatives to purchase. To pre-order your DVD copy, please email JR@ArlingtonStudio.com with "DVD Copy Request" in the subject line. Good luck with finals everyone!

ACMI at Arlington Town Meeting 2008
ACMI PCV, Dick Lavalle, handles camera-3 at TM.
ACMI's Goverment Access channels are cablecasting Town Meeting sessions live on Monday and Wednesday evenings and replaying them frequently throughout the week. These live cablecasts and replays are the most watched of any of our offerings and we are pleased by our most recent improvements to both our video and audio signals than emanate from the Robbins Memorial Auditorium at Arlington's Town Hall. ACMI's audio upgrade also included a complete rewiring of the microphone cables under the auditorium floor, and a tuning of the hall's acoustical properties to enhance speech clarity inside the auditorium. For this season's Town Meeting sessions, we have been grateful for the assistance of a small core of ACMI PCVs (Production Crew Volunteers). Members of Arlington Community Media Inc., these trained volunteers give their time and newly acquired expertise to ACMI and to the Town of Arlington so that Town Meeting can be covered, gavel to gavel, without over taxing ACMI staff. Special thanks to Paul West, Richard Lavalle, and Akila Padmanabhan for their contribution to distributed democracy in Arlington. Be sure to watch! Then let us know how you think we're doing. Tune in Monday and Wednesday evenings and taste from the ample menu of warrants currently being being digested within our town's most participatory of institutions. Viva Town Meeting!

Patriots Day Parade 2008
ACMI was on hand on Sunday April 20th for LIVE coverage of this Arlington event.
Arlington Community Media's Studio Manager, Jeff Munro produced, and Education & Government Access Coordinator, J.R. Curtis directed ACMI's live coverage of this year's Patriots Day Parade. They were assisted by AMCI staff and an able team of ACMI PCVs (Production Crew Volunteers). Five cameras, and a digital video switcher brought Arlington viewers a way to watch the proceedings at home--both while it was happening and for several days afterwards. We were all so pleased to bring our viewers this annual event and look forward to next year's coverage.
Thanks to PCVs Akila Padmanabhan, Wu So Fai, Stephen Boudreau, Paul West, and David Concepcion. We would like to expecially thank Director of Veterans Affairs, Bill McCarthy, for his invaluable help with program and schedule details.

New Programs
The Public Square Jeff Thielman and crew shoot on location for one of ACMI's newest program series, The Public Square.
Arlington School Committee member and friend, Josh Lobel, decided
to produce The Public Square, a monthly half-hour program designed to stimulate
discussion among Arlington residents and within the Town's classrooms about events and issues important to our
community.Thielman offered to host the series because of his belief in the importance of Arlington's citizens having a public forum for the discussion of events and issues important to them. Feeling that there was something of a local information gap, and recognizing the opportunity
inherent in the newly organized Arlington Community Media facility, Thielman and Lobel initiated the production at ACMI's Arlington Studio of a 30-minute show about the issues
that currently affect our community.
The first show was about the proposed Green Line MBTA extension to
neighboring Medford. The second program was about underage drinking. While a common problem, participants learned
that Arlington
has a higher rate of teenage drinking and driving under the influence than
neighboring towns. The third program
deals with teenagers and sexual activity and its serious possible consequences:STDs, pregnancies, and psychological repercussions. The program poses the question of if we are doing enough
as parents and educators to address this important issue.
The Public Square
is currently airing in Arlington and Medford. Residents of other local communities are
invited to sponsor the program on their own public access stations. Nonprofit Clinic is another of our new shows. Click on the program name above for more info.

Arlington Center for the Arts and ACMI-TV
Every
spring, the Arlington Center for the Arts asks Arlington's
5th graders what they love about Arlington. They answer with the Images of
Arlington children's art exhibit that explodes with the vibrant colors of
a "kids-eye-view" of our community, highlighting the bike path and
Spy Pond, neighborhood pizza shops and fine restaurants, beautiful historic
buildings and beloved family homes, wildlife and waterways, skateboards, bikes,
bakeries, and much more.
On
May 27, ACMI member ACA is producing a TV show about the art exhibit, and highlighting
three award-winning students from each of Arlington's
elementary schools. Hosted by ACA
Executive Director John Budzyna, the show will also include visits from State
Rep Sean Garballey, Arlington Art & Music Department Chair Pat Tassone, and
Arlington art teachers Deb Martin, Deborah Chisholm, Amy Clay, and Deb Campagna.
Be
sure to tune in to ACMI-TV for a glimpse into our community through the eyes of Arlington's 5th graders! Three children from each of our Town's seven elementary schools have been chosen to represent their schools with their art. Check the summer TV schedules in The Advocate and on our website to know when to watch.
