| Just When You Thought You Understood Heart Disease, There's a New LDL In Town!

Great, just great. We all know that LDL is the "bad cholesterol" but now there is a "new" LDL! It's called LDL Pattern B. It's a little smaller that the LDL pattern A we have learned to hate and continuously try to reduce. Scientists now believe that the smaller LDL Pattern B particles are more dangerous
than the LDL Pattern A because they can more easily squeeze through the tiny gaps
between the cells in the endothelium to reach inside the artery walls. Individuals with high levels LDL Pattern B may also have lower HDL
cholesterol levels, elevated triglyceride levels, and the tendency to develop
high blood sugar levels and type II diabetes mellitus. So, during your next cardiologist visit, be sure to ask your doctor about LDL Pattern B.

| Aspirin, to chew or not to chew?

According to the Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide, chewing a 325 mg dose of aspirin significantly reduces blood clotting within 5 minutes. But swallowing an aspirin took 12 minutes to reduce clotting!
Let's go through that again...
- Chewing aspirin reduced clotting in 5 minutes.
- Swallowing an aspirin reduced clotting in 12 minutes.
That extra 7 minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Chewing an aspirin is key to reducing further heart damage because it will reduce clotting time.

carbohydrate diet can actually increase the risk of
heart disease
|  According to Dr. Ronald Krauss,
head of the Department of Molecular Medicine in Berkeley Labs Life
Sciences Division, genetically susceptible individuals who follow an
extreme low-fat/high-carbohydrate diet may actually be at higher risk for heart disease.
