PRESIDENT'S ARTICLE

- Deann Patena, Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa

Deann Patena 2

As the day pass by and summer turns to fall, we all start contemplating the busy Holiday season.   The last quarter of the year is full of events that help us build on our IMPI business plan promises:

·         Develop a new website

·         Create value for all IMPI members

·         Execute high level education programs based on what you have asked for

On November 10, we will join ISAE for our annual Cross Connect education day.  This is a fabulous one-day event which lends itself to great education and the opportunity to network with our industry partners.  Please be sure to mark your calendars for this event.

Our Communications team has diligently been working hard to develop a new website.  This launched on November 1.  It is designed to be much more user friendly and provide our members with updated and relevant information.  Please visit the new website!

As always, we will have a fabulous Holiday program on December 16 at the Hilton Indianapolis Downtown.  This program will include our annual Toys for Tots drive.  This program is always very successful for us.  We look forward to your generous contributions.

It is that time of year again as we look to our membership for those leaders who want to be engaged in our chapter as board members.  Please contact Angie Duncan for additional information if you are interested in taking the next step with IMPI.  It truly is very gratifying.

As we continue to provide valuable programs and events for our members, please look to these opportunities as your chance to use your membership to gain access to other organizations and their members.  It's the time of the year to connect and engage with each other as we look towards 2011.

GOLF OUTING RESULTS

The 2010 IMPI Golf Outing was another successful year, providing both sponsors and golfers a great day of enjoyment and amusement.  Located at a new venue, Wood Wind Golf Course, over 50 IMPI members and guests met for a day that would entertain all participants and spectators with not only golf, but hole entertainment, lunch and an awards dinner.

Despite the wind, sponsors entertained the golfers throughout the day with themed holes, including a competition to see who could hit the marshmallow the farthest by Marriott East and a challenging game of stacking golf balls by Columbus CVB.   Congratulations to the Renaissance Indianapolis North, who's fantastically delicious strawberry shortcake brought home the "most creative hole sponsor" award.  Not only were golfers entertained on the holes, they were also treated to beverages and snacks throughout the day.  Our three golf carts were decked out in fashion, including a celebrity themed cart, an 80's themed cart and the most creative beverage cart sponsor, a luau, provided by the Hilton Indianapolis Downtown.

It wouldn't be a golf outing without golf, and we had some great competitions on the holes as our foursomes made their way through all 18 holes.  Congratulations to the following golfers who won Wood Wind gift cards:

·         Closest to the Pin (men) - Bob Sapp

·         Closest to the Pin (women) - Brenda Reed

·         Longest Drive (men) - Matt Theophilus

·         Longest Drive (women) - Brenda Reed

·         Longest Putt (men and women) - Karen Lowrey

Teams were given the opportunity to purchase mulligans, strings and opportunities to wear a skirt throughout the day to help their game and increase chances to win the outing.  There were some great photos, lots of laughs, and fantastic shots throughout the day.  When it was all said and done, our first place team with a score of 61 included Bruce Highberg, Jamie Flemington, Ron Sheppard and Chris Ratay.  Second place went to Nicholas Patterson, Jeremy Fraga, Steve Smith and Matt Theophilus.  Of course, among the great scores, we also had our highest scoring team who was given a 30 minute group swing lesson from Wood Wind Pro and four beer growlers to help "drown their sorrows."  With a score of 70, Deann Patena, Rebecca Moreland Green, Larry Brandon and Lane Velayo were given this optimistic package in hopes for an improved future!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, especially the sponsors who made this day possible.  Through your donations, hole/beverage cart sponsors and support, you provided an entertaining day for all.  A special thanks to the Golf Committee and their head chair, Betsy Dukes, for planning the best golf outing yet!

VMS NAMED TO FOURTH ANNUAL "CMI 25" LIST BY CORPORATE MEETINGS & INCENTIVES MAGAZINE

Indianapolis, IN (October 5, 2010) - VMS has been named to the 2010 "CMI 25" list, an exclusive directory of the largest and most influential full-service meeting and incentive travel management companies focused on the corporate market. Now in its fourth year, the CMI 25 list is complied by Penton Media's Corporate Meetings & Incentives® magazine, the leading information source for the $40 billion corporate meetings and events industry. The CMI 25, published in the September issue of Corporate Meetings & Incentives and on www.meetingsnet.com, is an essential resource for corporate executives and meeting professionals looking for partners to help manage meeting dollars strategically and design creative and motivational off-site programs.

"As a whole, this year's CMI 25 companies handled more than 58,000 corporate meetings and incentive programs in 2009, which represents more than 6.5 million room nights across the U.S. and the world," said Barbara Scofidio, editor of Corporate Meetings & Incentives. "Our annual report is unique to this industry and meeting managers and procurement professionals turn to our research year-round for information on these important partners."

VMS focuses on targeted medical education by offering community outreach programs, patient education programs and meetings for healthcare professionals. With a focus on the life sciences industry, VMS has developed a keen ability to balance strict regulations with successful participation for the meetings it plans. And, as the clients' needs have grown, so has VMS. In the past 18 months, VMS has seen more than 30 percent job growth. Much of that growth has been in meetings management.

This is the second consecutive year that VMS has been listed on the CMI 25.

"In today's environment, with the scrutiny on spending and the perception of meetings, we must showcase the value and effectiveness of the meetings we produce. It is up to us to deliver results," said Angie Duncan, Vice President of Client Operations for VMS. "We are proud of our capabilities in strategic meetings management and are honored to be named again on the CMI 25."

The magazine's editors select CMI 25 companies based on several factors, including the number of meetings and incentive travel programs managed in 2009 and the total number of room nights represented by those meetings and incentives. They also evaluated the number of full-time employees at each company, as well as the percentage of the company's revenues that came from organizing corporate meetings and incentives, versus association meetings or other sources.

OCTOBER LUNCHEON RECAP

October's meeting at the Crowne Plaza Airport with CJ McClanahan was a fabulous fall feast.  Thank you to CJ, the Crowne Plaza Airport, AClassic, Star Plaza Hotel and everyone else who helped to make the luncheon so much fun and to all that attended.  We hope that you had enjoyable time learning all about our Board and met some of our new members.  We are looking forward to offering some other opportunities to get you mingling in the future.

CJ was certainly inspiring.  We loved the idea of only checking our email 4 times a day.  CJ warns us that we are "shoulding" all over ourselves and encourages us to preplan our time and sometimes make the decision to say no to taking on more and more tasks.

For more information on CJ McClanahan and additional great advice, click here.

October was also "Bring a Planner for a Buck".  Thank you to all of our members that brought a planner.

Proposals to sponsor IMPI for 2011 are due Friday, November 5th.  We appreciate all of our sponsors support and encourage all of you to participate.  Click here for the RFP.

Please let us know what you thought by filling out the brief survey.  We realize how precious your time is and want to make sure that we are providing the type of topics and speakers that you find valuable.

TEACHERS' TREASURES UPDATE

Teachers Treasures

"The cost of educating a child is immense.  The cost of not educating a child is incalculable!"

The Community Outreach and Green Committees of IMPI conducted a supply drive the past three months for Teachers' Treasures.  Teachers' Treasures operates a retail-like store with more than 300 items a classroom teacher can use. These items can help capture a child's interest, creativity and commitment to learning.  They serve 234 schools - public, parochial and charter schools - kindergarten through 12th grade, across Central Indiana, with 40% or more of the student population on the free or reduced lunch program. That's over 100,000 qualified school children. Every school district in Marion County has at least two schools that qualify for our services. In the IPS school district 100% of the schools qualify.

IMPI collected 15 bags and three boxes full of miscellaneous school supplies like pens, rulers, markers, paper clips, paper, etc.    They also received banners, name tags, and tote bags to donate to the organization.    Barbara Pecina, Executive Director of Teachers' Treasures, who was recently a guest speaker at IMPI luncheon, could not believe the support and donations of IMPI.    "We are so very grateful to the IMPI organization for all of the wonderful supplies.  It is through caring of individuals like you that Teachers' Treasures has been able to help the children of Marion County.  Thank you for all your effort, and your committees', to make this supply drive so successful."

Please visit the Teachers' Treasures website for more information about how you can help a great cause.     Also, visit IMPI's Community Outreach website at ...... on the latest community service project the Committee is working on or how to get involved.
