PRESIDENT'S ARTICLE
- Deann Patena, Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa
As your new board for the 2010-2011 year assumes their roles we are looking forward to a great year leading this chapter. In order to make sure we give you what you want we do need help from the membership. We need your feedback, support, and participation.
Speaking of participation--it is that time of year to get involved. As the new committees build, we ask that you take full advantage of your membership and join a committee. Each of the committees offers unique opportunities to get involved and can accommodate different skill sets and time requirements. We have something for everyone! Work on your writing skills by assisting with the communications team or feel free to commit a limited amount of time by helping the membership team make phone calls. Trust me, if you are willing to help we will find what is right for you. Please contact Stephanie Anderson, Director of Member Care, for the right place for you! As the saying goes, what you put into it is what you get out of it!
Our education team is gearing up to make this a great year of education. We have some fabulous programs coming up this year starting in August with Dr. Lawana Gladney, "Creating Meetings that Excite the Brain for Optimal Learning." She spoke to a standing room only crowd at MPI Meeting Different 2010 Conference! Be sure to watch for all of the future education programs to get the most out of your membership. We are also planning another great CrossConnect event on November 10; put it on your calendars now, so you don't miss it.
The board is here for you, but we can only help you grow and achieve your goals in this organization if you help us. Get involved and support the organization you belong to! Please feel free to contact me directly if you have suggestions on how we can help. |
| MY IMPI STORY | | "When you read the research on why professionals become and remain members of different associations there are many reasons, but they usually focus on what the association gives the individual. Many times, the benefits are hard to define. There are the tangible benefits like reduced rates to trainings, assistance with certifications, and many others. But, there are also the intangible benefits usually described as "networking" and "community". The communications committee would like to highlight the many reasons why our members join and stay with IMPI by having different members tell their story. As the new Newsletter Chair, it was decided that I would go first! I joined IMPI about three years ago after taking over Membership and Education/Event Planning for the not-for-profit association I currently work for. I originally joined simply to meet others who do what I do (if you work in an association you know how difficult it is to describe your job). It wasn't until I decided to get involved on some committees that I truly felt that membership was worth the money. I started on the Awards Committee and have stayed with that committee for three years now. Just recently, I accepted the invitation to be the Newsletter Chair and at the July luncheon's committee fair, I signed up for the Membership Retention committee. Being on the committees has helped me meet many people who I now call "friend" as well as build my skills and resume. The benefit that I value the most would be considered intangible and that's the support received from fellow association members, event planners (new and seasoned), and suppliers. From suppliers, I've seen a willingness to work with me on costs and short notice requests. From others, it's the recognition of hard work, the support as I work toward my CMP and CAE, and most importantly the knowledge that others understand how hard this job can sometimes be!!" - Stephanie Suddeth, Indiana Primary Healthcare Association If you would like to tell us your story or if you have suggestions to make the newsletter better, please contact Stephanie Suddeth. Also, if you would like to write articles for the IMPI website or write a review of an IMPI event, please contact Maria Meschi. |

IMPI will be supporting Teachers' Treasures in the upcoming months. Teacher's Treasures operates a retail-like store with more than 300 items a classroom teacher can use. These items can help capture a child's interest, creativity and commitment to learning. They serve 234 schools - public, parochial and charter schools - kindergarten through 12th grade, across Central Indiana, with 40% or more of the student population on the free or reduced lunch program.
IMPI will be conducting a supply drive during July, August and September. Please collect materials at your office and home and bring them to the August 26th luncheon at the Westin Indianapolis. If you cannot attend and wish for someone to pick up the materials, please email or call Bridget Williams at (317) 250-8150 or Heather Fuller at (317) 351-1566.
