In today's changing environment, setting yourself apart is crucial. Knowledge is power....Right? Meeting professionals need to be able to retool and at times reinvent themselves in order to remain current as well as to become not only marketable, but indispensible. Continuing education is the cornerstone for our local chapter and also MPI worldwide.
MPI in conjunction with the Canadian Tourism Human Resources Council has developed the new Meeting and Business Events Competency Standards (MBECS). These standards will enable meetings industry professionals to identify knowledge, skills and abilities that demonstrate areas one must focus on to create a new career path or enhance current ones. Amanda Cecil, PhD, CMP, MPI Body of Knowledge Committee Chair and past IMPI President will take us through the new knowledge plan and how we each can benefit from the new standards and identify ways to enhance professional development at every level of our career.
Our industry also has several designations for planners and industry suppliers that showcase your knowledge level and commitment to the industry. Two of those certifications, CMP and CMM, will be honored at the monthly program on Tuesday, May 18.
Join us to recognize and celebrate our certified meeting professionals and the certified meeting managers.

IMPI Awards Night - June 17, 2010
Haven't decided if you're going to attend IMPI in Wonderland on June 17th yet? "Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!"
Register now to attend IMPI's annual awards ceremony. This year promises to be full of surprises! Plan on coming dressed in your favorite Alice in Wonderland costume or just adding a few accessories to your cocktail attire. You'll walk the pink path of sponsors, play croquet, enjoy a fabulous dinner fit for a queen, and see Alice and her friends come alive.
Want to join the Tea Party and experience Alice and other characters close up? Tables of eight at the Tea Party are available, as well as regular tables of eight, half tables of four, and individual registrations."
