Summer Tutoring

We are fully operating in the summer. Our tutors have wide open schedules during the day as well as evenings and weekends. Schedules will be flexible to accommodate family vacations and summer camps.

Benefits of Summer tutoring: Summer tutoring can be a leg up for the struggling student. Scientific studies have shown that over a period of a few months students will retain only about 20% of what they learned in school. This percentage can increase significantly with repetition. Even if the student reviews instead of gaining new knowledge there will be an improvement in their performance once school begins. Their confidence level improves as well.

Tutor's Comment on Summer Tutoring - By Carolyn Tytler "When I retired after 35 years teaching, I missed contact with the children. Don't misunderstand, I didn't want a whole room full, all day, every day, anymore, but I missed the special moments, the one-on-one interaction, when you could actually see learning taking place in one little mind.

I began tutoring during the school year. Soon I was receiving requests for lessons during the summer. My first inclination was to refuse. The poor little tykes had worked their hearts out all year. They deserved a break, didn't they? Then I started remembering the unhappy scenes in the classroom every September. Not only were the children dejected about being cooped up inside again, many were anxious and frustrated because they had forgotten much of last year's work.

Are summer tutoring sessions helpful? Yes, I believe they are. For the good and average students they will keep the knowledge and skills of the previous grade fresh and sharp and provide a head start on next year's work. For a struggling student, they can be a life raft, saving him from sinking into a morass of new work for which he is not prepared."
Final Exams
Final Exams: June brings final exams and provincial exams for high school students. It's always best to study consistently throughout the school year. However, sometimes a few sessions before the exam can help calm the nerves with some test taking strategies and nailing down some of the concepts that are a bit fuzzy. Feel free to call us if your child would like this support.

"I can imagine that someday we will regard our children not as creatures to manipulate or to change but rather as messengers from a world we once knew but which we have long since forgotten, who can reveal to us more about the true secrets of life, and also our own lives, than our parents were ever able to. We do not need to be told whether to be strict or permissive with our children. What we do need is to have respect for their needs, their feelings, and their individuality, as well as for our own."    - Rita Nakashima Brock
