Safe Student Drop Off Procedures

When coming to school in the morning, we would all like nothing more than to simply drive up quickly with no traffic and be dropped off near our closest final destination.  Unfortunately, with over 3000 people inside these school walls daily, there is nothing further from the truth.  So as a friendly reminder as you come to school in the mornings, the one and only crossing guard is at the red light located directly in front of Boyd.  The security personnel who help the buses get out of our parking lot from the south parking lot exit are NOT a crossing guard and will not assist in such.

Please cross Lake Forest at the red light only.

Also, we have had many close incidents occur when a student is let out of the vehicle while still on Lake Forest Drive.

Please remember that Lake Forest is not an approved student drop off location and that our security personnel located at the south lot entrance/Lake Forest intersection is not a crossing guard.  BE SAFE!!

PTO General Meeting

Monday 5/14 9:30 in the Boyd Library

The meeting will be the last general meeting of the year, we will induct officers for the 2012-2013 school year, and Mr. McDaniel will host the final Principal's Coffee meeting for this school year immediately following the PTO meeting.

MEF College Information
Seniors:

MEF Scholarship

MEF has not yet completed the process of choosing scholarship winners. Each student who applied will receive an email in mid-May letting you know whether you've won a MEF Scholarship or not. Please check your email frequently as this will be the only way we contact you about your scholarship application.

If you win a MEF Scholarship, the Awards Ceremony will be May 18th at 6:30 pm at Christ Fellowship. All details will come in the email you receive about your scholarship application.

Financial Aid

Most of you should have accepted your financial aid awards by now with your college. Please be responsible about checking your emails and mailboxes for any further financial aid instruction from your college. Many colleges do not send financial aid award letters by mail; you have to log in to your college account to view your award letter.

If you have any outstanding paperwork, such as Dependency Verification, with the financial aid office you MUST turn that in as soon as possible. This paperwork can delay you receiving your award letter.

Housing and Orientation

If you plan to attend college in the fall, please make sure you're checking every piece of mail and email from your college. It is essential that you register for orientation and figure out your housing situation as soon as possible. If you're confused or cannot find this information from your college, please see your Advisor before the end of the year.

Is it too late to apply to college?

It's never too late to pursue a college education. Collin College is a great choice and perfect opportunity for many students. It's one of the best community colleges in Texas and affordable. You can also find a few four-year colleges that are still accepting applications. Again, please see your Advisor as soon as possible if you'd like to get started with a college application now. Don't wait until summer when there might not be anyone to help you if you need the assistance.

If you are planning on attending Collin College in the fall they are accepting applications. You will need to fill out the Collin application on www.applytexas.org.  in addition to the application they will need an official transcript, a copy of your shot record that shows you received the meningitis shot and a photo ID when you go in to complete your registration. After your application is complete you can meet with an advisor to plan your class schedule for the fall. You will actually register for your classes online starting Jun 19 (if you have no prior college hours).

Parent Feedback Survey

McKinney ISD is conducting a parent feedback survey during the month of May. The survey questions will be intentionally broad in order to provide feedback on a variety of topics. As the district plans for the future, it is critical that we understand the experiences and opinions of our stakeholders. We realize that all stakeholders play an important role in evaluating the quality of education in a school district. Your experiences with the schools are invaluable pieces of information and we appreciate your feedback.

Student Email and Online Storage

McKinney Boyd students now have access to tools and resources that will support their use of technology in school. Each student has been provided the following:

  1. School email address (Outlook Web App)
Students will now have access to this email address during the school day so they can send school related emails when required for assignments. These email accounts are also very useful when signing up for educational versions of the various web 2.0 tools available online (ex. Prezi and Voicethread).
  2. Online file storage (Microsoft Skydrive)
Each student will now have access to 25Gig of online file storage where they can save files. This can replace the need for a flash drive and still allow flexibility for students to access schoolwork anywhere they have an internet connection.
  3. Access to Microsoft Web Apps
While using the skydrive, students will also have access to the Microsoft Office 365 Web Applications. This includes "lite" versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote.

These accounts are already activated and ready to use.

Click here for log in information.

New Skydrive App to use with Microsoft Live Account

The district has provided each student with a Microsoft Live@EDU-skydrive email and skydrive (online storage) account. More information in article above this one.

Microsoft has just recently introduced a new skydrive app that will allow students to access their skydrive files on their iphone or ipad and upload photos and video to this account. SkyDrive from Microsoft is the place to store your files so you can access them from virtually any device. With SkyDrive for the iPhone, you can now easily access, manage and share files on the go. You can also upload photos or videos from your iPhone to SkyDrive

To download this app go to:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skydrive/id477537958?mt=8

 ORBanner

In Apps on your idevice search for skydrive. It is a free app.

You will need to use your school account - click here for instructions on using your school email/storage account.

Skydrive is accessible through the internet on any device, but was a little difficult to use on an idevice before the app was developed.

Skydrive on other phones:

Parents, teachers, and non-MISD students can use skydrive for free - if you have a hotmail or other microsoft account, you already have access. Skydrive accounts provide 25 Gig of online storage for free.

MISD students need to log in using their school provided account OR they will not be able to access while on campus. Click here for log in instructions.

If you have questions, please email Dawn Adams at dadams@mckinneyisd.net

As part of MISD's 21st Century Learner Initiative to school for instructional purposes.
