Dear Friends of School on Wheels,

This week we kicked off our 9th school year of providing educational support services for children impacted by homelessness. Can you imagine living in a family shelter or motel and trying to keep up with your school work?

Our children living in temporary homes deserve the same opportunities as their peers to achieve success.

As you may know, School on Wheels (SOWMA) is a non-profit organization that provides educational support to children and their families impacted by homelessness. Since 2004 we have provided customized academic services for over 1,360 children.

Through your continued support, our students impacted by homelessness are finding success in school and beyond! Thank you to all of our volunteers, our donors, and our friends, who make our kids' success possible!

Supporters Make 800 Children VERY HAPPY
SOWMA 26Sep2012 1
Thanks to W.B. Mason, our other amazing corporate partners, college faculty, alumni, teachers, students, schools, churches, temples, and chiropractor offices, 800 children started the first day of school with a brand new backpack filled with school supplies.

For the past three years W.B. Mason has provided high quality school supplies for 1,000 backpacks, and hundreds of community volunteers ages 6 to 76 helped us prepare and deliver backpacks for children living in shelters and motels.

Thanks to our donors and volunteers, we did not need to turn down one student, one agency, or one shelter this year.

We expect to give away another 200 backpacks before the end of the school year!
25 SOWMA Students Enrolled in College

SOWMA 26Sep2012 3 Three years ago, we received a call from a case manager at Father Bills & MainSpring, asking if we could help one of their residents, a young man who was a senior in high school, get home from sports practice. As a result of that call, we developed a program called High School Plus to help students finish high school and go onto college.

That young man needed after-school transportation and we provided it. Then we helped him with his college applications and his senior class trip.

SOWMA Grad 26Sep2012

School on Wheels became this student's support system, and next June he will graduate college with a degree in Business.

We are proud to tell you that our first college graduate has returned to Bridgewater State University this fall to get his masters in Social Work.

Your continued support makes all of this possible!

6 Years in the Rodman Ride for Kids

RRFK Team Photo2 In our six-year history with Rodman Ride for Kids we raised over $300,000 to provide services for School on Wheels students. Every dollar raised through the Ride comes back to School on Wheels with a 10% bonus match.

The Ride is a perfect time to maximize your donation to help our School on Wheels students. Founded in 1991, the Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity that raises funds for youth-focused social-service agencies that support at risk children in Massachusetts.

The Ride for Kids is the nation's fourth largest noncompetitive charity cycling tour.

This Saturday, September 29th, twenty-six School on Wheels bike team members will ride 25, 50, or 100 miles to help us raise $90,000 towards our fundraising goal this year.
